WHITBY FREE PRESS,WEDNESDAY,DECEMBER 18, 1985 PAGE 27 RJP Jewellers has selection to suit all tastes If you're the kind of shopper who has a hard time making up your mind, don't go to Oshawa's R.J.P. Jewellers. The selection will make you dizzy and it could be hours before you stagger from the shop clutching your Christmas gif t. R.J.P.'s has over 3,000 gold chains at least as many rings, and diamonds "of ail descriptions" from which to choose. All glit- ter seductively as you walk in the door. "We keep a huge in- ventory here and sell our merchandise at a much lower mark-up than most stores," says Joe Packman, joint- owner of the business. "And our quality is as good as anyone else's ... it's gold and gold is gold." Packman says he and his partner Irving Pan- cer can offer bargain prices because they aren't paying for fancy store fixtures or a prime downtown location. "We're in keeping with the plaza we're in (on Simcoe St., just nor- th of Bloor St.) the K- Mart and the Bargain Harolds. Anyone who buys here gets ex- tremely good value." While the partners keep prices low, they stress that their store is not solely for the budget customer. Jewellery prices range from $5 to $5,000. In addition to selling ready-made jewellery, R.J.P.'s accepts custom orders, mounts settings and handles repairs. This work is currently being sent out, but next year, the owners will build their own jewellery factory on the premises. While R.J.P.'s has only been open for a year, Packman isn't a newcomer to the jewellery business. The Toronto retailer has been designing jewellery for 30 years and owns several stores. His partner, Pancer, has years of manufac- turing experience. According to them, the jewellery business has seen a lot of changes over the years. Canadians, says Pack- mai, are appreciating jewellery more and spending more money. Tastes, too, are getting more sophisticated. In order to cater to the growing demand for stylish accesories, R.J.P.'s is constantly getting in new mer- chandise. For Christ- mas, their busiest season, they've got in an extra-large selection. From Friday, Dec. 11 to Dec. 24, the store will be open every night un- til 9 p.m. (Saturdays ex- cepted). Avoid the last minute panic to find that perfect gift. Visit R.J.P.'s today. Pur- chases can always be laid away till Christ- mas. PaRmCIPaSLTIM Durham College All-time Durham College reports an all-time record in its placement of 1985 graduates.
