On Oct. 3, many An- derson students vsited Stratford to see the Shakespearean play Kng Lear. We travelled1 by bus for about two and a haif hours. When we reached the Stratford Theatre, groups of students went excitedly1 in ail directions, to ex- plore Stratford's char- ming stores and restaurants. There were students from ail over Ontario who came to see the performance. My friends and I set off at a brisk pace, heading towards the centre of Stratford. Along the way we saw beautifully kept lawns in front of Iovely oldJ homes. The many trees were turning into their autuxnn colours. Af ter an enjoyable lunch, we strolled through the town, looking in various stores. The town was very quaint and the river bank was nost pleasant. As we walked along and window shop- ped, we wished we had more time, but to our disappointment, we realized it was time to head back to the theatre. When we reached the theatre, our disappoin- tment vanished as we looked forward to the Shakespearean play, King Leýýar. The theatre itself was h4uge and no matter where a person sat in the auditorium he had a perfect view of the stage. My frîends and I ELIZABETH ALLEN J1 outing were il rows back and we saw everything clearly. The costumes were fabulous and looked as if a great deal of work and effort had gone into making them. Likewise, the actors were greati At the end of the play, there was a question session and one person asked if the ac- tors took voice lessons s0 that their voices filled the theatre. The actors heartiiy agreed that voice lessons were necessary. Along with everythng else in the show the special effects (lighting and sound) were very realistic. At one point in the play there was a storm in W.hich lightning flashed and thunder boomed. It was so real I was a littie surprised that we weren't drenched! Overaîl, the play King Lear was very well done. -Now I can't wait until the Shaw Festival in the spring.
