Cobi Foods wins E.O.B.A.'9s tyke titie The Cobi Food tyke ahl-stars of the Whitby Minor Basebal Association are the 1985 Eastern Ontario Basebaîl Association champions. The squad won the titie at a tour- namnent' held at Peel Park on Aug. 10. The championship cornes on the heel of an extremely successful. season that saw the tykes chalk up a 16 and 3 record to earn second place in the E.O.B.A. league behind Ajax. In the first game of the tournanient, Whitby easily outlassed Bowmanville 8-1. Durham College ex- tension courses will begin the week of Sept. 23. The college is of- fering over 300 courses in the areas of arts and crafts, general interest subjects, applied arts, business, technology and health sciences. Registration begins on Saturday, Aug. 24,' There are 27 brand new courses in the college's faîl offering. To name only a few, they include Aerobic Fitness for Couples, Astronomy, Child Developinent, Com- puters in Business Management, Food and Beverage Cost Controls, Home Maintenance for Females, .Introduction to Adut Training, In- troduction to Palliative Care, Propane Conver- sion, Theory of Music, Film fun The final session of the Whitby Public Library's "Sommer Film Fun" program will be held next Wednesday (Aug. 28) in the auditorium at 10: 30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. "lWinter of the Witch" will be shown. The film is suitable for children age 6 and over. Admission is free. There are two sessions left in the Whitby Public Library's "Summer Films for Pre-schoolers" pro- gram. This Friday (Aug. 23), "The Sneetches' and "Curious George Goes to the Hospital" will ta shown. On Aug. 30, "Winnie the Pooh Discovers the Seasons" and "Mickey's Trailer" will be featured. Both shows begin at 10:30 a.m. and ail pre- school children are welcome. Admission is free. Leading the offense was John Mitchell who, in addition is hitting five R.B.1.s, hit a triple and a home run. The squad's other R.B.I. came from Trevor Blimke. Leading Whtby's strong defensive effort was winning pitcher Tim Puddister who gave up three hits and threw three stike-outs during the game., Whitby then went on to fiterally trounce Port Hope 21-10. The squad engaged in a battle of itters and managed to build-up a 10-0 lead by the end of the third in- ning. and Robotics (Programming) . Durham College is also offering 13 courses conducted in the French language for the en- joyment of the French speaking community. For those who have an interest in a special sub- ject area, each of the college's divisions has put together a package of related subjects which can qualify for special extension cer- tificates. There is a new' extensive applied arts section inluding Cor- porate Com- munications, Early Childhood Education, Food and Beverage Management, Labour Studies, Musical Studies, and Photographictudies. This faîl there are 28 extension courses of- fered at the college's campus at 400 Monarch Ave., in Ajax, to provide special service to residents of Pickering as well as Ajax. Af ter three ifinings, Whitby was up 7-0 and showed strong defensîve plays, especially from Grylis, Jeff Baker and Christie. Whitby's 16 runs were made of 10 hits with home runs coming from Gosgnach (who also contributed 'triple) and Tim, uddister. Bliruke struck Whitby's only double to the game. This is the first time Whltby has won the E.O.B.A. tyke cham- pionship and after the tournament they were presented with the Ray Johnson Motors Trophy by tyke commissioner Ron Jay of Cobourg. After the win, coach/manager John Bates commented: "The players deserve a great deal of congratulations for the excellent effort and they have cisplayed during this 'super' season."
