The Whitby Minor Basebaîl Association opened Its 1985 season Iast Saturday with a parade through the town that eventually found ts way to Peel Park North. ~ This year, the honor of throwlng out the f lrst pitch went to Whtby Fire Chief Ed Crouch (right) who sported a Toronto Blue Jay sweater complete with his name em .~ blazed across the back. One must say that Crouch showed fi ne form on the myound. Showing off his prowess with the bat is Const. George Dymtruk of the Durham Regional Police Force (below) standing in for Supt. N. early Monday evening. According to a spokesman for the Durham Regional Police Force, a 1984 Chevrolet driven by. Richard Randaîl, 51, of Brooklin was north bound on Ashburn Rd. when lie was struck by a pick-up truck travelling east on Columbus Rd. Randali suffered from a probable fractured jaw and cheekbone and was taken to the Oshawa General Hospital. His four passengers ail sustained injuries. Dianne Riandail, 14, suffered from major in- juries and was. taken to the Ajax-Pickering General Hospital. Leanne Cole, 13, also of Brooklin, was taken Hospital sufferlng from severe head and neck injuries. She was later transferred to the Hospital. for Sick Children by helicopter. Alison Fleming, 15, of Brooklin was also tran- sferred to Sick Kids from Oshawa General suffering from severe neck injuries and possible spinal injuries. The fourth passenger, Astrid Saver, 14, was taken to O.G.H. suf- fering from lacerations to her forehead. The driver of the pick- up truck, Charles Mar- tin, 18, of Brooklin was taken to the Ajax- Pickering Hospital suf- fering from minimal in- juries. The police spokesman said that they believe the driver of the pick-up failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection. However, the in- vestigation is con- tinuing. Charges are pending. Injuries daim life of local woman, 29 woman died in St. Michael's Hospit-al, Toronto last Friday as the result of injuries she sustained in. a single vehicle, accident in the early hours of May 5. Linda .Wenîeli, 29, o0f 910 King., St.' was a passenger in a van driven by Anna Latham, 18, of 108 victoria St. W., when the vehicle went out of control and struck the bridge abuttment over the Lynde Creek on the south side of Vic- toria St. W. Wenzel was taken to the Ajax-Pickering fering from sevbre head, abdominal and in- ternai injuries. She was transferred to St. Michael's May 6 where she died four days later. Funeral services for Wenzel were held Mon- day afternoon. at the W.C.- Town Funeral Home and Chapel, Whitby. She was buried at Groveside Cemetery, Brooklin. The Rev. R.W. Gregory presided. Wenzel is survived by her daugliter, Melissa, and by ber parents, Eleanor and Andrew Wenzel of Whitby.
