Receiving the nomination as the NDP candidate for Durham West, DonStewart is prepared to hound the Tories on what lie con- siders the constant mismanagemfent of On- tario's interests. 9 According to Stewart and a number of other NDP officials the Tory party, since the retirement of Bill Davis, is ripe for a downfall - the people of Ontario want a change. At the annual meeting held at the UAW hall in Ajax, about 50 people gathered to re-assert their promise to represent the ordinary people of Durham. Not oniy is the representation called for in the provincial j legisiature, but Geoff Rison, last year's federal candidate, called for more par- ticipation of the NDP at the local level. Rison contended that the Tories of Durham identify with the business people because the arrangement provides benefits for both parties but leaves out the ordinary people. "If the Dome stadium is profitable ail the money will'go towards the companies, however, if the proposai ï looses money the public purse will take the loss," he said. Deciding to give up the presidentcy of the association to run in the provincial elections, Don Stewart pointed to a number of other issues hie saw as integral to the campaign in Durham region.
