According to the policy the "board la dedicated to providing an environment in which differences are respected, and harmony la promoted among staff, students and the community which il serves. " The policy is the resuit of several meetings by staff of the board and the curriculm The committee also heard presentations from the community in which various suggestions were presented and later in- corporated. Trustee Lorne Mur- policy la not the result of race related problemas instead the "board bas taken a pro-active ap- proach rather than a reactive approach. " The policy is carefully worded, according tn negative connotations. No strong words such as tolerated are presented. They are however, in the preamble to convey the board's strong feelings about the sub- ject.
