They have been located at their current Thickson Rd. S. address for about nine years. They started their business not long after their marriage and have become total supporters of the Town of Whitby. Over the years they have given their support to such organizations as the Whitby Girls Athletic Association, Whitby Girls Baseball, a 10-pin bowling team and have donated a number of signs, banners and decals to promnote the Town of Whitby and other organizations. They have also given signs to: Durham Save A Heart, the Whitby Ar- ts, to the Chamber of Commerce, the Corridor Area Ratepayers Associa- tion, the Whitby Little Theatre and other groups. Don Rogers says that one of the reasons he gives signs instead of his time to these com- munity organizations is because he likes to give what he does best. "You can take a lot out of the community but you've got to put a little back in," he says, "Im a better sign writer than whatever, so that's what I give. "You have to give whatever you're good While he says he would volunteer to do other -things for com- munity groups if asked, but his business takes up most of his time so what he does best is what he gives. Both Rogers think highly of the town they caîl home. "It's a super town,ll Don says, 'II think Whitby's going to be the in spot in Durham Region. Everything they do in Whitby, they seem to go that one step further. ' The most surprised of the pair was Bey Rogers Who says she got a -caîl from the chamber asking her to make sure that Don was at the meeting. 41 was really sur- prised when they an- nounced my name too," she said. "They just said to make sure Don was there, 1 had no idea they were going to in- clude ine too."1 They also said they were honored to be classed with such people as Bill Bonetta, Bill Nurse and Bob Atter- sley, previous award winners. "It's an honor to be încluded* in the same bracket they're in, " Don and Bey Rogers, seen here in their studio with a sign they recently painted for the WhitbyDown. - town Board of Management, of Signet Signs were named the recipients of the Whitby Chaznber of Corn- merce's Business Person of the Year Award for 1984. The pair were honored for their contributions to the community over the last 22-years.
