McKay Town Clerk The Corporation of the Town of Whitby Last year, the VON Durham Region branch provided a total of 40,598 nursing and related ser- vices throughout the communities of Pickering, Ajax, Whit- by, Oshawa, Newcastle, Scugog, Uxbridge and Brock. While maintaining the model of the home visit, the VON also strives to meet the growing health care needs of the com- munities in which it ser- ves. More recent program developments being in- troduced by the Durham Region Branch are the Friendly IVisitor Family support Program; the En- terostomal Therapy Program; a psychiatric nursing follow-up programn and a model pilot program for senior citizens health care in high rise complexes. The Durham Region branch of the Victorian Order of Nurses is sup- ported by the Ajax/Pickering and the Whitby - Oshawa - Newcastle United Way Agencies. United Way monies enable the VON fee to be adjusted on a sliding scale in order that patients and families without a means to pay may stili be provided nursing services. Here Mayor Bob Attersley is accepting a pewter stein that was given to the town by Bull Schatzmann and Reg. Coun. Gerry Emm on behaif of the burgermeister of Feldkirch, Dr. Heinz Bilz. Bilz also gave the town a case of 12 botties of Austriàn wine, however, the delegation couldn't bring it back into Canada so it has to be left behind, in a manner of speakinig.
