WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEI)NESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 1984, PAGE 19 w YOIJR DINING PLEASURE For the best ever in Greek food By MICHAEL KNELL Free Press Staff If I had known thal Greek food was the speciallty of the bouse at The Prince Restaur. ant and Dining Lounge, 1009 Dundas St. E. before last Thursday I would have long since become a' regular costumer. And it's not only just that they serve Greek food, its that -they serve magnificant Greek food. The mousaka I enjoyed for lunch almost put me in heaven. The Prince is owned and operated by the Bousali s family. Father John is the chef who brings over 30 yeras of kitchen expérience to the Whitby eatery and personally prépares al the food witb the help of two assistants. Ris wife, Anne, greets the customers and en- sures that everything is prepared to order and served in a pleasant, friendly manner. Son Chris acts as manager 'and bookkeeper while aiso assuming duties bebind the bar. Other family members aiso help out at various times during the week. According to Chris Bousalis, over 90o per cent of the meais tbey serve are the Greek specialities of the house which not'only include mousaka (baked layers of potato, egg plant.' and meat that looks much like lasagna) but also boasts britzoia (pork tenderloin), mezedakia (pan fried beef sirlion cubes with mushrooms, green peppers- and, onions), and souviaki. When ordering" these dishes try the Greek- style potatoes which are fîrst deep fried then smotbered with lemon juice, oregano and spices and baked. Tbey wiil leave you begging for more. And for desert, don't forget to have their Greek Baklava. Its thin layers of pastry are piied so bigh you need a steak knife to cut it properiy. But be forewarned, this is true Baklava, rich and honey sweet. It is flot for people on calorie reduced diets. One of the nice things about the menu is that's dwiches and burgers and snack foods such as chieken fingers. This restaurant caters to a strong lunch time crowd wbicb consists of mainly regulars. Regular customers are also in- abundance at dinner hour. Every day there are lunch and dinner specials wbich are well worth conside-ing. Last Thursday it was pastitso (over baked layers of pasta, ground meat top- ped witb cheese sauce) served with Greek salad and garic bread for $3.95. Tie Prince is open from il a.m. to 10 pa. Monday to Friday and from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. On these two days breakfast is served for just $2.50 and includes tbree eggs, a choice of peameal bacon, bacon or ham, homefries and Throughout the month of September, the works of Judy Gouin wili be on display at the Whitby Arts Station Gallery.
