The year ended with a thrilling, fine inning final game between Brother's Pizza and Casey's Roadhouse Restaurant. Brother's defeated Casey's at 13- 10 to. become both league and piayoff champions. Brother's Pizza has been in the siow-pîtch league for the past two years. Casey's took an early lead, however, Brother's fought back to hold a 10-5 edge midway through the game. During an offensive spurt, Casey's tied the game at 10 ail. Brother's scored three runs in the final three innings to secure the champion- ship. Two crucial strike- outs by pitcher Paul Reynolds heiped ensure the win. Consistent hitting and an excellent defense have been the trademark of the Brother's team al season. Ail players gave 100 per cent while on the field. With the victory, Brothers becomes the second tearn in league history to win both the league and play-off competition. This feat was accomplished iast season by Hugh's Hawks. The league has been competitive this season, with only a few points separating the majority of the teams. With the exception of a couple of teams who are one or two players short of consistency, ail the clubs in the league are of equal calibre. This reflects both the popularity and effec- tiveness of the philosophy of the Whit- by league. The idea is to have fun, and play some bail. Most of the. league's piaying mem- bers do just that. Despite being a "fun league" the competitive WHITBY IROQUOIS SOCCER CLUB HOUSE LEAGUE RESULTS (PLAY-OFFS) SQUIRTS GAMES PLAYED SEPT. 10o, 1984 Swiss Chalet........ 3. In almost no time at ail, it seems, Arlaine Wright went from aerobics instructor at June Wilkinson's Aerobic Workout in Toronto to star of "The Twenty Minute- Workout" - the interna- ti<.nally syndicated television exercise program that has revolutionized the genre. In 1981, the Hamilton, On- tario beauty came into T.O. with 14 yea.rs of ballet. Two years and 65 TV programmes later, the Athena-like brunette with the sweet, husky voice reguiariy shares the dais at ceiebrity dinners with Bobby Orr, Ferguson Jenkins, Rick Vaive a nd the like! "The programme has cer- tainly not made me rich but it has given me a great deal of confidence", Arlaine told PARTICIPaction. "What is more, 1 think the programme has given viewers more confidence, too, en- couraging theru to "Think Fitness" in everything they do, making them more aware of themselves. " "The Twenty Minute Workout", in case you have been held prisoner without TV for a year, features a floating cast of femnale fitness instruc- tors who work in pairs or in threes taking viewers through a vigorous, no-nonsense aerobics routine. The Toronto producers in- vited many local fitness instruc- tors to audition, caling Arlaine back three times before giving her the job and sending her to Los Angeles for further train- ing. With her TV coileagues, Ariaine helped devise the show's routines which they al rehearse in front of mirrors to ensure accuracy and syn- chronization. Try the programme some- time. Follow Arlaine as she and her pals take you through a four-part routine: warm-up, cardio-vascular workout, tone- up and cool down. If you make it through the first tweive minutes, you'll have accomplished something. PARTîCîPaction told Arlaine how proud we were the flrst time we made il ail the way through. " You should be, " she said. Arlaine has just flnished a se- cond tlight of 30 programmes that are already on air in many Canadian cities (except Mon- treal) and the U.S.A. She enjoys the celebrity, the autographs, the interviews, yet she remains level-headed with an eye very much to her future. Presently teaching aerobics' at three separate clubs, Araine plans to open her own in the near future. "I want it to be a success because I'm good, not because l'in fanous," she asserts. Does her club's namne por- tend uts future: "4The Shape of Things to Corne"ý'? Russ Kisby is President of PARTICIPaction, the Canadian miovement for personal fitness. 1 JL
