Gary Mark scored the first overtime goal for Whitby but play con- tinued for a ten-minute overtime period. The score was tied three more times before fatigue became a factor. Mississauga won 24-19. Wayne Cornish and Bill Passfield scored four each, pairs by Gary Mark, Greg VanSickle, Richard Napper, Steve Dyment and singles by Greg Roberts, Fred Luke and Dean Van- derlinde. Later checking with OMLA rules indicated that the overtime should have been sudden death for the preliminary games but Whitby had already been registered with the loss. Whitby left no doubt in the second game as they eliminated Gloucester 17-9. Napper and Mark scored three times each, twice each by Steve Dyment, Tom Frank, Cornish and Chris Ain- sworth, with singles by Rich Dyment, Steve Nolan and Mîke Frederick. Mitchell TraN Garden Stree Whitby Kinsr Willow Park Whitby Famil Blair Park Mîssissauga bast a close 10-11 game to Peterborough which matched them up with Whitby midgets again. The quality of play was similar to the first mat- chup with Wayne Cor- nish tying the score with about 52 seconds to go in the third period. Mississauga managed one more breakaway to squeak out a 14-13 win. Rich Dyment and Cor- nish scored four each for Whitby with singles by Mark, Napper, Passfield, VanSickle and Luke. VanSickle earned at least five assists. Mississauga con- tinued to easier games and won the Ail-Ontario 'A' Championshlp title with a final win 13-9 over Peterborough. These teams will meet again August 13-19 at the Canadian Champion- ships in Gloucester. ]Rai*ders take Li*ftlock The Peacock Farnily Sport Raiders have completed a mast suc- cessful summer hockey. season by winning the minor bantam cham- pionship of the Liftlock Summer Hockey Series which was held at the Kinsmen Centre in Peterborough. In the championship game, the Raiders defeated Toronto West- wood by a 6-2 score. Westwood got off to a good start in the game and were able to build a 2-0 lead after one period on goals by Harrison and Bodnarchuk. In the second period, the Raiders got their at- tack going as they scored four unanswered goals. Mark Hamilton led the way for the Raiders with two goals; Jaan a nd Scott Luik tallyed one each. With orly il seconds gone in the third period Jaan Luik scored his second goal of the game- ta give the Raiders a 5-2 lead. With a three goal lead, the Raiders used skating and good positional play to com- pletely staîl the West- wood attack for the rest of the game. The Raiders final goal was scored by Shayne Stevenson mid-way through the third period.* Prior ta the Liftlock Tournament. the Raiders won the silver medal in the Bay of Quinte Bicentennial Hockey series, held in Belleville. This win gave them a bye into the championship game. game. The 'D' Championship was WGR peewee No. 2 versus Arthur.' It was a real cliff-hanger. The game was 4-6 for Arthur then Matt Shearer scored at 1:29 to go and Jonathon Head tied the game with 29 seconds to go to force a 10 minute regular overtime period. Another tie at 8-8 for- ced the game to con- tinue with sudden-death overtime. Arthur got the title with a 9-8 final score. The scoring summary for Whitby was Shearer with three, Badowich and Fawcett with two each, Head with one and goalie Brett Agnew with two assîsts. The WGR peewee No. 1 team played in 'B' division of the OMLA playdowns. They played consistantly by out- playing their opponents in the middle of the floor but too many shots went on the wrong side of the goal-posts. This teani sponsored by The Hideaway was eliminated in two games with consistent scores of 6-8. The Hideaway Roadrunner scorers in the 6-8 bass to Burlington were Garrett Campbel with two, Matt Cook, Alan Frank, Cluis Husted and Robbie Mar- tin. In the 6-8 bass to Orangeville, Husted acored tbree with singles by Cook, Paul Hamilton and- Chris Thompson.
