The Whtby-Garrard Road Peewee No. 1 team started the 1984 season with a visit to the Windsor Spring Lacrosse Tournament held at Adstoll Arena in Windsor. The firat game was a 16 to 2 trouncwng of Sar- nia. Whitby scorers were led by Chris Husted - with 5 goals, Brian Grieves with 3, pairs by Garrett Cam- pbell and Paul Hamilton and singles by Alan Frank, Matthew Cook, Jason Pitters and Den- nis Directo. The WGR peewees continued to develop their balanced attack with a 13 to 2 win over Wallaceburg. Campbell ledwith 4, pairs by Rob Martin, Directo and Husted with singles by Grieves, Cook and Frank. Wallaceburg beat out the. competition to challenge Whitby in the championship game. Grieves led with 4 goals and Husted with 3 with other scores by Cam- pbell, Hamilton. and Directo. Whitby Peewee No. 's won the cham- pionship 10Oto 4. The WGR peewee No. 2 also went to the Win- dsor tournament. They have not been together as long as the No. 1 team but showed signs of developing into a good competitive team this year as they played two Thornton trac k winners Whitby's Dr. Robert Thornton Public Sehool put in a fine showing at the Whitby-Ajax District Track and Field meet that was held recently at the Civie Fields in Oshawa. Seen here displaying the school's 24 first place, 14 second place, and 20 third place ribbons are team captains Peter Needham and Janette Wagner. In the middle is Brad Stella, 9, a grade 4 pupil who won first place ribbons in the 60m, 200mn and the relay. Mfter a low scoring game, Chris Husted scored with il seconds to go to tie the game 4-4. The other Whitby goals were by Husted, Brian Grieves and Garrett Campbell. The WGR Checkers Variety bantams also went to the Kinsmen The Peacock Family Sport Bantam hockey team swept both of their games last week. On May 25, the Raiders blasted the MTHL Mississauga Black Hawks by an 11-2 score. Leading, the Raiders were: Shayne Stevenson and Craig Fisher with three goals each. Joey St. Aubin notched two while Scott Luik, Rob Miwa and Mike Reier added singles. Replying for the Black- Hawks were O'Donnell and Fakaza. On May 27, the Raiders ' totally dominated the Quinte Summer Hawks as t hey skated to a 9-2. victory. Troy McKay lead the Raiders attack with four Arena ln Peterborough. They ended on the low end of a 5-6 score with pairs of goals by Rob Paddick and Brian MacDoneil and another goal by Chris Tueker. The WGR midget No. 1 team did not do quite as good as they lost 5-10 to Peterborough., Gary Mark scored twice, one one a penalty shot, Steve Dyrnent scored two and twin brother Rich scored the other Whitby goal. In the return match for the bantam No. 1 goals. Other scorers for the Raiders were Stevenson with two, Brennan, Fisher and St. Aubin tailying one each. -Newman and Clement provided the scoring for Quinte. team, Checkers Varlety outran visiting Peter- borough at Iroquois Arena on Saturday for a 12 to 4 win. Adam Foote led with 3, pairs by Mike Williams and Chris Tucker with singles by Derek Jones, Keith Primeau, Rob Paddick, Jeff Whittle and Julie Kernohan. In exhibition play at Iroquois .MAena, Cheekers Variety' out- classed the bantams from Gloucester il to 2. Whittle led with a hat- trick, 2 each by Williams and Theker with other markers 'by Primeau, Jones, Greg -Rennie and Foote. The midget No. 1 had difficulty with a strong Gloucester but came up with 8 different scorers to win 13 to 12. Three goals each by Gary Mark and Bill Passfield, 2 by Richard Napper and 1 each by Greg Roberts, Chris Ainswor- th, Steve Nolan, Steve Dyment and Rieh Juniors playing ,.400 basebali, The Whitby Minor Basebail Association's junior team has won two of their five games to date this season. After winning their season opener 13 -3 over Bowmanvile, the local, squad went on to lose both ends of» a double header to Brockville. They also lost a game to Bowmanvîlle. Last Thursday, Whit- by defeated Markham 3 - 1 on a fine effort -put in by pitcher Greg Ianarelli who gave up only one hit. Their next home game is tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. when they take on Bowmanviile once again at Iroquois Park.
