Accordlng to a spokesman for the for- ce, $700 damage was done wben thieves broke into a Reynolds Street home when they busted down the front door. The bouse was ransacked and $105 in 'cash was taken. A St. John St. W. home was also ransacked. Taken was a haif-ful bottle of rye wbiskey and $15 in cash. Damage was estlmated at $25. Two young men have been arrested in connec- tion witb these inciden- ts. Tbey are: David Cbarles McWhirter, 16, of Lupin Dr. and Jeffrey John Hughes, 16, of Cardiff Crt. Hughes was released on an undertakting and both will appear in Wbitby Provincial Court to answer to the cbarges tbis Friday. At the time of bis arrest, McWirter was awaitlng trial on another break, enter and theft charge laid la connection with a spree of break-mns .that oc- cured throughout the Whitby, Oshawa, Ajax and Scarborougb area la the last few months. He bad beenreleased on bis own recogizÉance by the courts. Police ar e stil in- vestigating five other break-mns. The garage door of a Michael Blvd. home was forced in causing $200 damage. However, the occupants were home at the time and the suspec- ts were scared off. Cash and jeweilery were taken from an apartment on Dundas St. W. Police said that $75 in old Canadian bills were taken as was a men's black leather coat valued at $80 as weil as gold chains and a ladies' opal ring. Cash totalling $24 was also taken. Unknown suspects also entered a Gasby Dr. home by forcing open a basement win- dow. Tbree bedrooms were ransacked and numerous items were stolen including two mens rings, necklaces and other jeweilry. Police could not give a value to these items. Thieves gained entry to a Pringle Dr. home through the siding patio doors wbicb were pried TORONTO - It seems that Whitby's rapid growth bas flot escaped the attention of the On- tario Electoral Boun- daries Commission. In a report submitted to the legislature last week, the commission bas recommended that a riding - to be called Durham Centre - be established to include ail of the Town of Wbit- by and the north-eastern section of the City of Oshawa. The new federal riding wil be called Ajax-Whitby - Oshawa and wiil include al of Ajax and Wbitby as well as part of tbe City of Oshawa.
