With automobile related accidents being one of the leading causes of death, it could be up to you to save a life. The Whitby branch of St. John Ambulance, RAISED L PRINTING DURHAM urges everyone take a standard first aid cour- se, in order to be prepared for any emergency situations. THE EXPROPRIATIONS ACT provides that, (a) Where an inquiry is requested, it shall be conducted by an inquiry of- f lcer appointed by the Attorney General; (b) the inquiry officer, (i) shall give every party to the inquiry an opportunity to present evidence and argument and to examine and cross-examine witnesses, either personally or by his counsel or agent, and (ii) may recommend to the approving authority that a party to the inquiry be paid a fixed amount for his costs of the inquiry not to exceed $200.00 and the approving authority may in its discyetion order the ex- propriating authority to pay such costs forthwith. 2. "Owner" and "registered owner" are defined in the Act as follows: "owner" includes a mortgagee, tenant, execution creditor, a person en- titled to a limited estate or interest in land, a committee of the estate of a mentally incompetent person or of a person incapable of managing his af- fairs, and a quardian, executor, administrator or trustee in whom land is vested; "registered owner" means an owner of land whose interest in the land is defined and whose name is specified in an instrument in the proper land registry, or sheriff's office, and includes a person shown as a tenant of land on the last revised assessment roll. 3. The expropriating authority, each owner who notifies the approving authority that he desires a hearing in respect of the lands intended to be expropriated and any owner added as a party by the Inquiry off icer are par- ties to the inqulry. DURHAM REGION FIELD NATURALISTS The regular monthly meeting of the Durham Region Field Naturalists will be held on Jan. 30r at the McLaughlin Library, Bagot Street, Oshawa, at8p.m. Why do some insect stings swell? Who do. some people react so severly to beestings? How can you help a per- son who has been stung? These and other questions will be an- swered by Mr. Calvin Davis, a local resident and our guest speaker for the meeting. Mr. Davis is a naturalist, an entymologist and an author of three books about insects. He will share his experiences in gathering insects for the purpose of serum production, give infor- mation about avoiding and treating stings and bites, and display some species of insects and butterflies.
