As the month of October draws to a close, Sep- tember's atmosphere of mass hysteria and general confusion has disslpated. This change was nôtlced by those Andersonians involved in the Co-operAtive Education.Program, who were wondei'ing, since September, if Mr. McGar, the Co-op co-rdinator, would be able to find placements for them. The dlfficulty lay in the fact that, compared to the 24 students who par- tlcipatedlatYear, there was a flood of 41 students this year. Ail students were relieved to hear, though, that they had a working station. Some students will be working for the Town of Whitby, Consumers Gas, Durham Region, varlous local schools and otherý businesses. Though 90 per- cent of these students will not receive a wage, sim- ply having the work experience or the possibiity of conitinuing to work there part-time or fuil-time throughout the summer is a reward in itself. Co-op is basically. a program in which students can earn an extra credit by participating in atwo or three, week work session' at specificý stations for alternating mornings or afternoons. "For example, a student who is teaching FPrench at a public school will receive one credit for'his work out of school as wel ,as a credit in his'inner school component. Un- fortunately, this extra credit system does not apply to grade 13 subjects. Also, trahsportation provided by the Durham Board of Education'allows students to work in Oshawa, Whitby and Brooklin. According to Mr. MeGary, Co-op allows students to explore career possibilities through the school systemn and decide if the career which they desire to pursue is really the key into their future. On a more physical note, on Oct. 24, Anderson held its fifth annual Anderthon. For a small entran- ce fée, the ýstudenits and teachers of Anderson were giVen a chance to get some fresh air, exercise and help promote sehool spirit.
