Tuesday, September 20, was a day of kudos. Ail grades 9, 10 and il students who had achieved an 80 per cent average or. more were acknow ledged and applauded. Individual prize wlnners included the followlng: Bruce Boulanger - hlghest standing in Computer Science, Frank Shine Award. Joanne Grixti - Whltby Arts Award. Yasmin Sinanan - St. Bernadette P.T.A. Award. Leslie Buzminski - Holy Family C.W.L. Award. Ramona Martens and Dan Timothy - highest stan- ding in gradé 10 History, Royal Canadian Legion Prizes., Donald Uren - Benson S. Hamilton Award, Business Studies. Todd Crawford - Outstanding Contribution to a Volunteer Programme, Whitby Psychiatric Hospital. Our now traditional "Get-Acquainted Day" was held last Thursday. Even though-the weather was less'than ideal, we nopetheleas had a good time. The activities at Iroquois Park were many'and varied - soccer, basebail, hockey, tennis, broombal,' horse- shoes and free skating. Unfortuniately, rain put a damper on the tug-of-ar. Ail in ail, it was a. fun- filled day. Another first, of the school_ year was our school dance last Friday evening. It too was a success and now the grade 9's are ahnost fuily initiated - the final step - our DO'C-A-THON this week!1 Leadership training If you are 13 'to 15 years old or know someone in that age group, this mnay be the- answer to the need for developing -leadership skills. ,The Leader-mn- Training course offered by the Durham Region Family YMCA provides opportunities which im- porve ability to teach and to lead; to under- stand oneself and others; to develop per- sonal skills in activities; to formulate a set of values and appreciate those honoured by others. The. program is divided -into componen- ts. The theoretical com- ponent takes place Monday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Room 203 at the Centen- mal Building in Whitby.
