The new facility is situated at Tricont Avenue and Tbickson Road, lni the industrial development complex immedlately south of the MacDonald-Cartier Freeway. Inlialy, the n ew facillty will employ ap- proximately 75 people and, wlthln five year, the number shouldi- crease to 120. For the convenlence of' employ- ees a full-service cafe- teria is provided com- plete wlth attractive outdoor lounge'area for use during the summer months. Building 0f the steel and reinforced concrete structure, whch will provide an Eastern warehousing and distri- bution centre for Sony products, was begun i June, 190. The building, which contains a floor ares of 119,323 square feet, is situated on a» 16.5 acre lot. It is surround- ed by a fully landscaped ares which also encom- passes a parking lot for 138 cars and a driveway in front of the building. -At the rear, an im- mense paved area fadilitates the parking of 45 foot trailers. Six- indoorý truck bays are available for incoming shipments and an addi- tional three docks are designated for the ship- ping 0f merchandise. The ntIonal parts operation, which is located in the new build- ing, lias,,two indepen- dant docks for parts shlpment activities. lI addition to its ware- housing, distribution and national parts cen- tre, functions, the new Sony buildigwill also provide a quality ac- ceptance facillty and a fully staffed and equipp- ed Sony servie centre for the area.. .The 'National Parts Centre operation features a new com- puterized- system of inventory control- and procurement and lias instailed an automated storage and retrieval carousel parts system. Five carousel units -are i operation' with -a capacity of,43,000 items of small and medium size. T1he carousels turn their storage shelves by pushbutton command and"each carousel can memorize up te 100 loca- tion numbers. 'The ma- chines speed up parts retrieval dramatically. The warehouse ares of the new Sony building comprises 88,000 square feet 0f floor space Iwlth 22 foot ceing beight and is fully sprinklered. Attached ,te the ware- house, ofi the south side, is approximately 32,000 square feet of office and laboratory space. There is ample room for fur- ther expansion te the east 0f the complex.
