Report from Queen'9 s Park By The Hon. George Ashe, MPP (PC - Durham West) Ontario Minister of Revenue This week, I would like to discuss an interesting Publication whlch recentl>' arrlved in my office. The publication to which I arn referring, "«Ontario Fami- lies"p, is publlshed by the Ontario Secretariat for Social Development. "Join Our Celebration - May' Is Famil>' Unit>' Month" is the headline of the current issue which includes a number of suggestions to assist in the planning of famlly-oriented activities. The theme of this month-long celebration 18 "In- vest Time in Your Farnil>"' and famil>' members are encouraged to strengthen their lives b>' setting aside time to participate in meaningful activities together. The Provincial Government acknowledges the special role that the famnil>' plays in our society and bas proclaimed "Family Unit>' Month" in recogni- tion of the man>' contributions that the farnil>' makes to the weil-being of communities throughout Ontario. Ontario Government' prograrns have been developed to assist and support the famil>' unit in coping with the pressures of everyda>' living. The Ministry of Communit>' and Social Services, for example, funds credit counselling agencies to assist famiiles in coping with financial difficulties. This Ministry also sponsors the Parent Relief Program to provide emotional and financial sup- port to famiies with developmentally handicapped children. The Ministry of Education encourages aIl school boards ini the province to provide Famil>' Life Study courses which -focus on the maintenance and strengtbening of the famil>' unit. The Ministry of Health recentl>' announced the expansion 0f the Chronic Home Care Program which will enable patients to- spend more of their recover>' time in their homes with the support of famil>' members. One of the goals of the Seniors Secretariat, which was established in Januar>', 1982 is to enhance the independence of elderl>' famil>' members b>' providing access to information about programs and services of interest to them. The current economie uncertaint>' bas added to the pressures 0f ail Ontarians, but I arn certain that the famil>' unit wilI continue to adapt to address the challenges of these changing times. There was nothing wrong with the title but remar.kably, the picture of the accused was flot Hitler, Charles Olsen or even Jack the Ripper but Jesus. What? How can that be? An>' red blooded child of God knows that Jesus was perfectl>' sinless (1 Peter 2:22). Obviously the writer has fallen from bis chair, on his head no less. Well maybe we should think again. Doesn't the Bible sa>' that, "He Hiznself bore our sins in Mis body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness 1 (1 Peter 2:24) ? Imagine that. Ever>' last sin from the tin>' to the humongous has been transferred to one person. Ever>' immoral act, ever>' lie and evil deed laid on a single individual. Can it be true? Yes indeed it is true, not because we want it to be true but because it was necessary. No one, absoluteiy no one, could pay the price or cancel the debt of sin for us except the sinless Son of God. So Hie chose (Philippians 2:5-11) to give His life as a ransom for man>' (alias you and D.
