Incividual outstand- ing performances by Julie- Leswick and Hea- ther Armitage, both 10, led the 10 and under age groupers to first place finish winning the high point trophy for the second time this month. The young swimmers collected their first trophy at the Markham, Invitational earlier this month. Leswick led her team- mates to victory with two gold medal wins and three silver, while Ar- mitage grabbed three silver' and two bronze. The girls added two more silver together with Tina Doran and Wendy Primeau in the freestyle relay event and Allison Bettridge and Wendy Primeau in the medley relay. Adrian Vargas was a bronze medalist in individual events and added another -bronze in the medley relay with Pot- sep, Matthew Cook and Scott Spencer making up the foursome. The 50 meter butterfly was dominated by WISC boys, Matthew Cook, Scott MacPhail, Scott Spencer, and Potsep winnlng the event. In the tougli conipetition of the 12 and under boys events, . 12-year-old Chris Donnelly captured two bronze medals. Coach Tom McLough- lin was highly pleased by his team's perform- ance and amazed that althougli Iroquois Pool was closed for two mon- ths and his swimmers lost this valuable prac- tice time, a great nuni- ber of swimmers in the older age groups were finalists and improved their personal best. The future is looking bright for these WISC swimmers as they corne away from their first "AA" Championships with determination and dedication to a new goal with the cry - 1"Just wait til next year 1" The Iroquois 10 and under boys took second place with a fine team effort at the Ontario championships. The Brooklin-Whitby First City Development hockey club went ail the way for the-second year in a row Jan. 29 and 30 at the North American In- ternational Silver Stick tournament in Moore- town, Ontario. Whitby, at the tourna- ment by virtue of having won it last year, defeat- ed Ajax in the champ- îonship game by a score of 2-1 in six minutes of overtime. Whitby's Charlie Ma- son scored the tying goal, and then' went on to clinch the win at 6:14 of the fîrst overtime period. The Brooklin-Whitby team advanced to the final by defeating Mississauga 7-4 and Dayton Ohio 7-2. A shut- out in the semi finals against Warren Park (4- 0) sent Whitby to the finals against Ajax.
