It could be true that your beating dollars are floating through cracks in the roof if your bouse needs improved insula- tion, caulking or weatherstripping. The problem, says the Ontario Ministry of Energy, is that many bomeowners don't know bow much heat they're losing and where it is escaping from. To help Whitby resi- dents lower heating costs and conserve ener- gy in their bornes, the Ontario Ministry of Energy is offering free Heat Save clinics at the Whitby Mail from Jan. 19 to Jan. 29. The clinics feature a scientific "lheat loss detector'" known as tbermograpby. On Nov. 17, 1982, an airplane flew over Wbitby and recorded beat loss in typical Wbitby homes witb infrared scanners. The scanners produce temperature maps indi- cating areas of high and low beat loss. The scan- ners measure bow much heat is emitted from the rooftops of buildings. The analysis includes a calculation of an energy rating, and recom- mendations for the Iow- est cost ways of reduc- ing fuel bills. For an accurate ana- lysis, bomeowners are advised to bring esti- mates of the square footage of beated floor area in their homes, and an estimate of the beat- ing cost for the last year. The biggest cause of heat loss, says the not be met. Givings from the communities involved are expected to reacb $1,350,000, and while this is an increase of $37,000 over 1981, the goal will be short by $150,000.
