PAGE 6e WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 6,1982, WHITBY FREE PRESS His Word as a major way of gettlng the truth to us about Himself. The Churc.h Speaks Spon>ored by the WIIITBY MIN ISTERIAL ASSOCIATION' By THE REV. ARNOLD R. MAIN Pastor <Whitby Pentecostal Church Pascal once' wrote, "Men despise religion; they hate it and fear it may be true". I'cannot'think of a better way to describe what seems to be the attitude of many today. It is a dangerous thing to believe in the existance 0f God. Hls existance and believing lu His existance îmmediately deniands some, form 0'f response. If" God is who He says He is and has doue what He says He has done then we have no business ignoring Hlm or making Hlm in lour own Image. That's the crun- ch. It is easier to create God in your'understandlng then let Hlm reveal hlmself as He'is. Does He have a standard? Yes He does. So it le good that we get to know what it is al about and> notilmit our- selves to any human philosophy. Pgalm 53:1 says "The f001 hath said lu his heart, there is no God", but actually thie le better trans- lated to read, "The' ,foo1 bath said ini hhert no God". There is a dfference. The people who go un- der the titie Athlest or agnostie are not so much say- ing there is no God as muchý as they are sa-ylng no to God. Refusing to <believe lu Hlm and refusing to believe Hlm are two différent thlngs. As Shaeffer wrote, "God le there and He is not silent."' This is_ quite obvious lu Paul's letter to the Romans chapteri where he states "For since.the beginnlng 'of the world'the invisible'attributes of' God, for example Hls eternal power and divinity, have 'been plainly discerhible through the thlngs which He bas made and'which are comnmonly seen andknown, thus leavlug these men without a ragof excuse. They knew ail the time that there'was a God, yet tbey refused. to acknowledge ... Him as sucb, or thank Hlm for what He le or does.-ý Thus they become fatuous lu their arguments and plung-' ed-their siilyminds further into the -dark". (Phil- lips) Yes God exists and best of ail He sent Hls Son,; Jesus Christ, into the world to reconcil the world to Hlmself. God loves and cares for us far more than, we wiil ever realize. But that is not religion, that le revelation.
