The Whitby Iroquois Swim Club is looking for kids who like to swim. Ages - six to eighteen. Sizes - small, medium or large. No experience needed- on the job training! The club is beginning its sixth season on Sep- tember 20 and is seeking recruits to continue building its competitive strength and add to the success of previous seasons. The club offers three levels of member'ship registration consisting of a six-day one-and-a- haîf hour training sche- dule, a three-day one- and-a-half hour session, as well as a three-day 45-minute session for very young beginning competitors. For these young novice swim- mers, emphasis is basically on adjusting stroke techniques, stroke control, and en- durance to build up strength. Speed cornes, with practice and exper- ience. Many W.I.S.C. swim- mers do not limit their atltcendeavours to swimming alone, but are engaged in other pursuits as well (hockey, track and field, ice-skating, soc- cer, lacrosse, and gym- nastics) and find that the'. ceonditioning and training for competitive swimminig gives them an advantage and. is a great asset when par- ticipating in other spor- ts. Many .parents of W.I.S.C. members have voiced the opinion that the sport 'has greatly enabled their children to gain confidence in their abilities, flot only in swimming, but in other areas as well. The club believes that aIl swim'- mers' goals are equally important - whether it be to reach the Olym- pics or reach the other end of the pool! Each child is encouraged to participate fully to the extent of his or her ability - there are no 'bench-warmers when you swim with W.I.S.C.!'1 Competitive swim- ming is a family affairs - as is evidenced by the participation of more than one or two children from a nuinber of fami- lies. This fact is partly attributable to the club's reasonable fee structure. Coach Tom McLough- lin will be heading the coaching staff again this season with Cheryl Lin- ton and Kim Powell assisting. As the 1982/83 season gets underway, the Whitby Iroquois Swim Club offers a greatway for kids to stay.
