The only loss' by the Whitby-Garrard Road team was in the opening game to Brampton, the eventual "A" Champ- ions. Then followed four victories, over Burling- ton, Peterborough, Hamilton and Six Nation No. 1 teanis. Coach Rick Wilkes re- ports that the Tyke Red- men had strong efforts by their offense, from their defense and espe- cially from, goaltender Michael Massey who played five super games during the tournament. The Rednien also did very well in the akilis competition in wbich aHl teams participated. They won the gold medal with a team score of 54. The first game'was an 8 to 3 loss to Brampton who have flot lost a game in 1982. Kelly Vipond scored 3 Urnes. The team played good two-way lacrosse. Burlington was treat- ed to a 13 to 4 loss by the Redmen. Anne Wind-, over scored 6,, Vipond and Jonas Derks, each got 3, and Tommy Smart scored once. The win over Peter- borough was due to out- scoring Peterborough, 6 to 'l during theè last period for a final mark of il to 7. Vipond got 5, Derks got 3, Wlndover had 2 and Shaydon San- tos hadi1goal. Hamilton had a lot of big players but the speed and good balIcon- trol of the Whitby tykes Season 1ends gave theni a 12 to 5 wln. Vlpond led with 6 goals, Derks with 3, Windover with 2 and Santos with 1. Three goals in the final four minutes 0f a very bard fought gamne gave Whitby Redmen- the margin of victory i the championshlp gaine with Six Nations No. 1. Zach Hayden and Tom- my Smart played gret defense. Goaltender Michael Massey was de- termnined to carry on despite belng injured in the third perlod. The final score was 9 to 6 for the Redmen. Widover got 5,~ Vipond had 3 and Derks scored on a penal- ty shot. The champions wiil be honored at one of the next home games of their sponsors, the Senior Redmen.
