Four of their teams were i tourna- ments and by Saturday night, ail four were in the Consolation Chamnp- ionship game. The Redmen tykes first game was against the eventual "A" cham- ps. Despite strong team effort on defense by Zack Hayden and Todd Cyr, Brampton over- powered them by l0Oto 5. Kelly Vipond got 2 goals and assisted on ail the others. Anne Windover got 2 and Jonas Derks got 1. Coach Rick Wilkes reports that the strong back check- ing by acting captain Rohan Mehta, Matthew Sorichetti and David Mitchell disrupted, many of Oshawa's scor- ing threats. Jeff Relph lost his shutout in the dying minutes of the game as Whitby won 9 to 1. Tommy Smart got 4, Shaydon Santos got 3 and Mcihael Massey got 2 goals and 3 assists. The Whitby Optimnists novice teamn first game was an il to 2 loss to a strong A rated teamn from Hanmilton. Chris Husted* and Brian Greaves scored. Many were impressed by the strong aggressive play by Greg Fawcett who forced Hamilton into many errors. The Opti- mists started passing and beat Oshawa by 7 to 1. The teams tied at the penalty box with 26 minutes each. Camp- bell scored twice, and Husted and Greaves got singles. In league play in McGregor . Arena, the Optimists beat Scar- borough by 6 to 3. The first game.at Iro- quois" Park for the An- drew Antenna peewees was a close 10Oto 7 loss to Burlington. Goalie Dan- ny McWhirter picked up 3 assists. The second game was an 8 to 6 win over Barrie. The third game was an 8 to 5 loss to Peterborough while the last game was Nepean 6 to Whitby 3. Derek Jones was the leading team scorer foi the weekend with 8, Mark Smith and Dave Clarke got 3 each, Mike Williams, Andrew Van- derLinde, and Mark Ainsworth each got 2. Other scorers* were Adam Foote, Mike Husted and Chris Tucker. In leagùe play, at Iro- quois Park, Bilan Mac- Doneil scored for the first time in bis first year of playing lacrosse as Andrew Antenna beat Scarborough 7 to 3. Jones got 2, Clarke 2, Tueker 1 and Williams 1. Their visit into Scar- borough was dropped 6 to 4. Clarke, Jones, Ainsworth and Willams scored for Whitby. -.The Peacock Family Sports bantain team went to the Kitchener tournament in Grand River Mrena. Their first game was very close with Whitby tying the score by the last two and a haif minutes but were not able to stop St. Catharines Eagles who won 9 to.7 for our ban- tams third loss of the season. Gary Mark got 3 while Steve Dyment and Chris Ainsworth got 2 each. The second game went into overtime with Malton. Troy Broad- hagen became the hero 1 minute later. Gerg VanSickle and Mark each got 3, Wayne Cor- . nish got 2 and Ains- worth, Steve and R.îch Dyment, Tom Frank alsoscored for the -13 to 12 win. In the Consolation Championship, Peacock Sports pulled ahead of Brampton for a 10 to 7 win. In the Tyke age group, the "A" Championship went to Brampton who beat Beaches by 6 to 5. The Consolation Champ- ionship went to the ÇWhitby Redmen with a 17 to 1 wipe-out of Eto- bicoke. In the novice age group, two of the top three novice teams in Ontario met in the, final. Owen Sound took home the "A" Championship with a 6 to 5 win over Hamilton. Whitby Opti- mists blue team cap- tured the Consolation Championship with a 4 to 3 win over St. Cath- arines Spartan. In the peewee age group, Hamilton beat out Burlington by 8 to 3 to take the "«A" Champ- ionship. Peterborough beat Nepean il to 3 and beat Whitby Andrew Antenna to earn the Consolation Champion- ship.
