Kelly Vipond scored four. Anne Windover got a hat trick while Jonas Derks, Todd Cyr and Tom Smart each got one. The Redinen were finalists for the A Chamfpionship at x--the Fergus Tyke Tourna- ýment. the first game was' against Spartan (the eventual B champs). The Redmen won 8 to 2 with hat tricks by Wind- over and Derks, and a pair by Vipond. The second game was a 15 to 9 win oÃ"ver Six Nations No. 2, Vipond scored six times, Wind- over scored five and Jonas Derks scored four times. The A Championship game was against Six Nationals No. 1 who had outscored their oppo- nents 48 to 3 in the pre- liminary rounds. In spite of incon- sistant reèereeing, the Redmen played a close game for a 4 to 6 loss. Vipond and Windover each got two. The play- ers are taught that assists are more import- ant than getting goals since the teams that pass well will eventually win. ' Todd Cyr, Tommy Smart and, Shaydon' Santos regularly set Up their teammates for scoring during the weekend., The Redmen are looking forward to playing the Six Nations again at the Whitby Tournament July 10 and iand again at the pro- vincial playoffs accor- ding to .coach *Rick Wilkes. Both novice, teams. went to the Barrie tour- namient. The "C" team sponsored by Kinsmen is ail 9-year-olds who' have neyer played la- crosse before this year. The Kinsmen lost to Ar- thur and to Barrie by the same respectable score of 4 to 1. Good show kids! The "B" team, spon- sored by the Optimists, played solid disciplined, short-passing game, for two-and-a-half games,, winqin4 over Guelph by il to 1, and over Elora 10 to 6 (Elora beat the Op- timists two weeks ago bylo to 6). In the "A" Champion- ship game, the Opti- mists were leading 6 tO 2 over Orillila when they stated'to play as indi- viduals. Orillia tied the game with fivýe seconds to go then went on to win, 9 to 7 in overtime.' .For the tournament, Garr ett Campbell scor- ed nine, Brian 'Grieve got five, Paul Hamilton got four, Rob Martin and Chris Husted each scored three, Matthew Cook got two while Chris VanClief and Alan Frank scored once. First year goalten- ders Wayne Paddick and Jeff Taylor are im- proving each outing. The Bantam Pea- cocks continued their winning ways with a 13 to 10-win in league ac- tion in Scarborough. 1Gro~gRoberts and Gary, Mark each got three while Troy Broad- hagen, Steve Dyment, Mike Cox,- Wayne Cor- nish,! Tom Frank, Dean VancerLlnde: and Jeff Page got singles. Assisting to set up the goals w*ere most'of the above, plus Simon Lewis, Chris Ainsworth, Rod Moriarity and Rich Dyment. In ail; 13 boys were involved in the scoring of this team effort. Team effort helpedý the Whitby Peacocks at the Bantam tournament in Dunnville.- London was defeated by a 7 to 5 score. Dunnviile, who were previously un- beaten in 1982, were de- *featedby a 9to 7score., At the start of the thiîd 'period of 1that game, Peacocks were trailing by 3 to 7 but kept on trying for the wln. . -Peacocks went:on to win the"A" Champion- ship with a 12 to 10M win over St. , Chistopher House.. Lesw ick takes 3'golÃ"*ds. A number of Whitby Iroquois, Swim Club swirnxers left others in their wakes at the recent -Central Region Long Course Champion- ships hosted by the York Aquatic Club. Ten-year-old Julie Leswick stroked to three gold medals in freestyle . and breast- stroke eVents and added a silver in backstroke as well as a fourth and fifth place finish in fly and IM to capture the Seedo Award as the top 10-and- under girl swimmer. The talented ten-year- old is one of several W.I.S.C. members training for the Provin- cial Age Group Champ- ionships to be held in July. Leswick was also one of the top achievers in the swim club's recent swim-a-thon. Also bringing in singles were Jim Boyd, Ray McLellan and John Nesters. Doug Seeley and Jim Spiers hit doubles while Seeley, McLeilan and Rick Mitchell hit triples. Whitby scored its first four runs in ' the fifth in- ning with McLellan bat- ting a triple on Spiers' double. Annis came home after a sacrifice ",.by Wayne (Xvens put, him on second base allowing Danny Denyer to hit an error to Port Perry's shortstop. Denyer also scored on a triple by Seeley. Owens also scored- another run in the seventh inning after walking to first. Whitby put in a five run performnance in the eighth inning with runs coming from Boyd, Mit- chell, Sheperd, Nesters and Spiers. The final Whitby run came in the ninth inning from Seeley who scored on a double 'from Sheperd. The Whitby squad will play their next game tomorrow night- in Brooklin against theý Brooklin Legion.
