Whitby Crafts' Festival May 2 The Whitby Festival' of Craft and Fashions will again be held at the Iroquois Park Mrena Complex, 500 Victoria Street West in *Whitby. The date 0f this year's show is Saturday, May 1, 1982 and the show hours will be from 10 a.m. to 5p.m. A new feature of the festival this year will be a fashion show to. be held at 2 p.m. It will fea- ture handcrafted gar- ments and accessories for both adults and children. Among those featured in the show will be Amelie Koning whose great love for fibre is reflected in'her fashion- able Tie Dye and Batik skirts and tops. Born in Surabaja, Indonesia, she studied art abroad, but has since given up< her work in oils and water colours to devote herseif to her work with. fibre and silk. Well known batik ar- tist Ruth Bjarnson, will also be exhibiting at the festival. She works pri- marily with fine cottons and her work has been exhibited in the United States and Europe. Ruth does not confine herself to creating -wearing ap- parrel and has many decorative items as well.. Many of the exhibitors will, be demonstrating their craft and a special ef- fort has been made to insure a wide variety of top quality crafts. Wildflower sho'w at Elnnislilen Spring bas finally arrived, and the Central Lake Ontario Conserva- tion Authority is cele- brating with the first annual Enniskillen wild- flower show. On Sun- day, May -ý 2, 1982, authority staff will be leading 1interpretive walks through the Enni- skillen Conservation Area. Displays, slide presentations and films depicting -wildflowers and other conservation subjects will be set up in the barn. Maple syrup, produced this spring at Purpie Woods Conser- vation Area, will be available for sale. Enniskillen Conserva- tion Area offers a variety of natural habi- tats., each with its own types of wildflowers. The most widespread -habitat area is a wet bottom-land cedar forest. The flora 0f this area includes plants more typically, found in Northern Ontario, such as- the delicate gold- thread and a variety of ferns. Water-loving wildflowers grow in abundance here along the banks of the Bow- manville Creek and also around the area's two ponds. As an added bonus, the spring bird migra- tion should be in. full swing. The variety of habitats at Enniskillen makes this an attractive stopover for many song- birds. The day's events will. run from 10 a.m.. to 3 p.m. Interpretive walks will start at the barn throughout the day. The displays in the barn will be open continuously. Picnic facilities are available for those who w ish to bring their lun- ch. To reach Enniskillen Conservation Area, go north on Regional Road 57 to Concession Road 7 (note C.A. sign), go west past the bridge to the first road (note C.A. sign), go north one haif mile to area.
