That meais that, the Company bas no further use for the, empty Fire- stone Canada plant'in Whitby. GM purchased the' plant just over two, years ago after Fire- stonç shut it dlown throwing some 650 people out of work.. <The announcemeênt,, made last week,, aiso means that some, 350 to 440 jobs in the- coml- pany's Osha wa pera- tions will be loat. 1 ,The, news came as a blow to, Whitby Mayor Bob Attersley who, saw GM's miove into the plant asa definite bonus for the town. Three young people lost their lives Iast Wed- nesday night, after the car they were travelling in was involved in an accident on Anderson Street. According to a spokes- man for the Durham Regional Police Force, g"1975 Plymouth was travelling north on An- derson Street about one mile north of Taunton Road at about 11:30 p.m. when it went into the east ditch striking a hydro pole. The car then went into the cul- vert and rolled.
