Members of the, Whit- by Iroquois Swim Club have a sure cure for the usual dose of the up- coming February "blalis". They simply don't have time for them'. The sixty W.I.S.C. swimmers, aged 6 to 16, are too busy training and competing to fal prey to any such condi- tion some of us mfight experience in the next month or 80. The first haif of the W.I.S.C. swim season saw team members compete and make their mark in varlous high calibre meets in On- tario, and remain unde- feated on the homefronk- Mid-season finds the club participating in the Canadian Speedo Dis- tance Swim Week - Jan. 29 to Feb. 7. This is a special competition open to al swimmers across Canada, with the aimof..encouraging dis-, tance swimming. The top 100 times for the age groups from il through to 16 years will be tabulated and swimmers ranked ac- cordingly. The distances are 800 meters (32 lengths for girls and 1,500 meters (60 lengths) for boys. The club will present any< W.I.S.C. swimmer qualifying among the top 100 a special comm- emorative medal. W.I.S.C. has several 8 to 10 year ods taking part in the time trialsas well. A contingent of Whit-1 by swimrners will represent the club at the annual Huronia Region- aIs being held at Brace- bridge February 5 to 7, and the team will be hosting two meets at Iroquois Pool in mid and late February to round out a very active month. The Whitby Iroquois Swim Club is always eager to add to its ranks, and at this mid- season there is a reduced fee structure for new rnembers join- ing from January to June geared to family memberships. If any parent would like to see their child or children .improve swimming skills, -keep Walter Pfeiffer watches on. Pfeiffer was one of several WISC parents who were on hand to help time the swimmers. Matthew Cook, 8, and Craig Potsep, 8, took a well deserved breather following the completion of their respective 1500 meters (60 lengths). The girls took to the pool on Monday to swim their 800 meters (32 lengths). in good physical condi- tion during the winter montlis, gain confidence in their abilities, learn good sportsmans.hip, and have fun in the pro- cess, perhaps the wet and wonderful-world of W.I.S.C. is the place for them, to be. Age is no drawback and there are no bench-warmers with W.I.S.C. - every swim- mer is encouraged to participate to the fullest extent. For further informa- tion and application forms, contact Ann Goulding, Membership at 668-9533. wTSC--wSm meet resuits Two Whitby Iroquois Swimmers dominated their age group events in-another W.I.S.C. vie- tory on Sunday at Port Hope competing with the Rainbow Runners, Trenton Doiphins and the Belleville "Y" Swim Club. Ten-year-old Janice Currie lias been consis- tent this season in leaving competitors in her wake and finishing as top swimmer in reent meets. She did so once again at Port Hope. Craig Potsep, 8, a first year competitor, swept Up first place finishies in every race, closely followed by teammate, ,Matthew Cook, also 8, who collected seconds. M M A higli scoring perfor- mance was given by seven-year-old Danielle Houle, a new W.I.S.C. swimmer to be reckoned with in future meets. Scott Currie, 7, and Scott Spencer, 9, lef t their marks on the competition as well. Strong performances by W.I.S.C.'s core swimmer aided thç club in the resounding win, and most wil bel com- peting at Bracebridge in the Huromia Regionals next weekend.
