PAGE 6, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 1981, WHITBY FREE PRESS Dono r Dear Sir: May I congratu- late you on your very reasonable edi- torial (November 7) concerning the af- fairs of the Ontario Humane Society. It would indeed be a terrible shame if the current dispute be- tween some mem- bers and the wants OHS to get on with the job management result- ed In less support for the soclety's primary objective - the welfare of the innocent creatures who cannot speak for themselves. But there has grown to be a size- able section of the membership that thinks the society should concentrate on Its simpler pur- poses - education, care, adoption, In- spection, and when necessary impeach- ment of cruel prac- tices. It should not be trying to become a multi-million dollar enterprise in- volved with heavy mortgaging and speculative busi- ness. We, the donors, simply want the admini- stration of funds to be clarified and to be reassured that proper priorities are observed. It would seem that manage- ment should be willing and eager to agree to this. Muriel H. Sissons, Whitby. Marigolds stink Dear Sir: Re: s -f B wants marigold "McEwen named Whitby's f lower." I thought the idea was to beautify the town. Beautiful is possessing quali- ties which delight the mind and sen- ses. One of the sense is smell. Has he ever taken the time to smell a marigold? ck's They literally "stink." I don't really think we need to have the name of our town bantered around that way.
