This seminar, developed over a two- year period by the han- dicapped employment program 0f Uic Ontario Ministry of Labour, ad- dresses Uic "how to's" involved in interview- ing, hiring and super- vising persons with handicaps. Following the conference, the con- sultants from Uic handi- capped employment program are prepared to assist employers with on site assistance in developing positive per- sonnel practices. Em- ployers current.ly utiliz- ing this program in- clude thc Toronto Dominion Bank, Levi's Strauss, Sun Life Assurance and the Bank of Montreal. Dr. Claude Vipond, director of rehabilita- tion, Oshawa General F~ A handy ne Hospital, will moderate a panel for, Uic seminar of interest to health care professionals. Other members of the panel include Rhoda Hender- son, director of Chedoke McMaster Vocational Assessment facility in Hamilton, Donna Loveil board member, Mental Health Durham who will present the disabled person's perspective, Jo Gradini, section mana- ger, Equal Employment Opportunity, Bell Canada presenting the employer's perspective. The fourth member of the panel will be Arna Banack, handicappcd employment program, Ministry of Labour. A workshop to explore the role and responsibilities of health care pro- fessionals will also pro- v ide some insight into the role of Uie health care professional in get- ting handicapped per- sons back into the work- force. A third seminar will be geared to the handi- capped community and will address job scarch techniques. Sessions will include an address by Terry Stevens, commissioner of per- sonnel, Region of Durham on employer expectations.
