WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 198 1, PAGE 19 Whitby Free Press YOUR DINING PLEASURE with Barry Murka r.... In our opinion.... Editorial was Dm ners not disappointed aftev-isiting Ali Baba not anat of public news story. How could this publication have "censored" anythlng when a position contrary to ours was aiso given reasonable treatment on the previous page of the same Issue? He goes on to say that our opinion "has drasti- caily affected the public's opinion of your abiiity to honestly and accurately report the issues and events affecting our County Town." This publication would like to believe that this statement is false and would like to assure its readershlp that we do everything in our power to make that statement false. However, we would like our readers to Judge this for themrselves. On this page we have repro- duced both the editorial and the news story that appeared In our Issue of July 29, 1981. We invite our readers to go over this material and judge for themnselves whether or not we treated the matter f al ny. In conclusion, the Whitby Free Press wouid like to suggest to Mr. Buchanan that his responsi- bililties as a trustee on the Durham Board of Education extends to ail issues and he should not behave in a partisan manner simpiy because he was a member of the executive of the Corridor Area Ratepayers' Association. Furthermore, he should not use his position as a trustee to further the politicai ambitions of one particular organiza- tion. I M 1 potato. The ribs were tasty and very meaty, and there was plenty of them. My steak was thick and tender, and thorougbly enjoyable. What disturbs us most about the letter is that Mr. Buchanan, for whatever reason, did not make reference to his position or his responsibilities as an elected officiai on the Durham Board of Education. Mr. Buchanan is paid approximately $7,000 a year to represent the interests of ail of the citizens of the Town of Whltby and it appears to us that he Is not representing the entire community on this one particular issue. In fact, Mr. Buchanan is actively supporting the Corridor Area Ratepayers' Association in their at- tempts to have hlgh schooi student transportation re-instated ln the Corridor Area. He is supporting a measure that wiIl resuit ln a further expenditure of taxpayers' money - money that will be raised f rom ail Durham taxpayers, not just from those living wlthln the Corridor Area. ln his letter, Mr. Buchanan states that our edi- tonial "reeks of public censorship." May we point out that the Whitby Free Press devoted the entire edîtorial content of one page to reporting his and otherviews on the municipal transit Issue and that we gave our opinion on this subject ONLY on the editorlal page and not within the confines of that 0 The best year yet sin- ce opening nine years ago speaks well of the success of the Ali Baba Steak House at 918 Brock Street North, in Whitby. This is a dlaim that only a few restaurants can make this year. It was our second visit to the Ali Baba in the past eight months, and we found the atmo- spbere and the decor as unique and cbarming as ever. As it bappened, we were seated at the same table we had on our first visit. Located in the corner of the room we had the opportunity to look over the surround- ings and the first thing we noticed was tbat it was very busy.
