SPENCER COMMUNITY CENTRE The Spencer Community has announced the winners of a raffle that was drawn on May 18. First prize went to F. Verrydt of Oshawa (ticket 223). Second prize was won by M. Leetch of Pickering (ticket 322) and third prize went to M. Worsley of Oshawa (ticket 207). The centre has expressed its thanks to Stokely Van Camp of Canada Limited and to Miracle Food Marts for donating the prizes. SPRING FAIR DANCE Get your tickets for the. MEADOWCREST PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWS During Education Week the junior students displayed their work in the hall under the theme "The Learning Stream." Miss Clark's grade 4, 5 class produced puppets for presen- tation of plays for primary classes in the library and for open house Tuesday evening. Also performing at open were were the primary and recorder choirs with the musical play "Red Riding Hood" after having presented it to the senior citizens of Fairview Lodge on Monday. Open house say Mrs. Coomb's grade 5 pupils challenging their parents in a spelling bee. The parents won. Mrs. D. Johnson's grade 3-4 class performed a choral selection in the hall while Mrs. Hopkin's grade 7-8 enriched English class conducted story-telling sessions in the library for pre- schoolers to grade 2, reading books they had written them- selves. About 30 children attended the 3 sessions. Mr. Brownson's room showed slides of school activities of the last several years while Neil Wick demonstrated in Mr. Parker's room a micro-computer and showed how useful it can be in the home. The senior choir also went to Fairview Lodge on Monday to sing some songs from their production of "Oliver", and have the senior citizens join in a sing-song. On Tuesday Mrs. Lang with her dog King fromn the Humane Society visited the grade 1 and 2 classes to discuss the proper care of pets. On Wednesday Mr. Wright's grade 6 class had a Food Fest of European Cuisine. On Thursday the Art Consultant, Mr. Tomlinson, came to Mrs. Larish's grade 5-6 class to give a tesson on sketching people. Also on Thursday, the kindergarten parents attended class and watched their children working and playing in their daily routine. MEADOWCREST ADVISORY COMMITTEE The Meadowcrest Advisory Committee wishes to remind ail parents of an open meeting and draw to be held in thE school gym on May 27, 1981 at 8 p.m. Guest speakers will be Mrs. B. Koch, primary junior consultant with the Durham Board of Education and Mr. R. Neale, head of the depar- tment of student services at Anderson C.V;I. The theme of the evening wilI be "learn more about the school system." MISS BROOKLIN PAGEANT The contestants are ready and preparations are near com- pletion for the 7th Annual Miss Brooklin Spring Fair Pageant. The festivities to be held Thursday, June 4 at 7:30 p.m. will feature the contestants in modelling, speaking and talent portions.
