rCail 725-897 with news items for the column, Crridor %w Capers By MARY McFACHERN i LUCKY WINNER Mrs. Renate Hedges was the lucky winner of a weekend for two at the Chelsea Inn in Toronto and tickets to a Blue Jay's game. A Peterborough club sponsored the basebaîl draw and Mrs. Hedges and her daughter Crystal thoroughly enjoyed a weekend in the city. Congratulations. Headjine in Star was wrong On May 13, the Toronto Star ran this headline on its York-Durham page: "9,653 out of job in Whitby. " That headline was in- correct. While the story corrected the headline, it should be pointed out that the figure represents the number of unemployed people in Ajax, Oshawa and Whitby. If that number was indeed correct it would mean that Whitby was experiencing a depressed economy since 9,653 people represents about 33 per cent of the overali population and ap- proximately haîf of the working population. THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OFWHITBY NOTICE 0F INTENTION NOTICE is hereby given that the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Whltby intends to pass by-laws to stop up, close and seil those untravelled portions of the public highway municlpalty known as Duffs Road, as shown below, lying between Lots 22 and 23, Concession 8, Town of Whitby, bounded on the north by Myrtie Road East, and on the south by Brawley Road East. The need for these by-Iaws arises f rom the tact that the ac- tuai travelled portion of Duffs Road is located partly on the original road allowance between Lots 22 and 23, Con- cession 8, Whitby, and partly on the lands adjoining the original road allowance. In order to resolve this discrepan- cy, it s the intention of the Town of Whitby to transfer the untravelled portions of the original road allowance to the adjoining property owners in exchange for the lands oc- cupied and required by the Town for the actual road aI lowance.
