To date, between 5600 and 5700 licence stickers have been bought in Whitby, down almost 300 from last year, according to Ministry of Transportation and Com- munications employee Joan Vesey. "We still have between 15,000 and 16,000 stickers lef t to seli but usuaily we seli the bulk of them in February," said Vesey. Motorists must have their 1981 licence stickers on the rea licence plate by mid- night February 28,. If they do not have their stickers displayed police will start to hand out $28 tickets to aIl violators caught without them March 1. Motorists will be happy to find that the price of the stickers has not gone up from last year. The costs are $30 for a four-cylinder car, $45 for a six-cylinder car, $60 for an eight-cylinder car, and $80 for a car built after 1977 with an engine displacement of more than 6.5 litres. Motorcycle licence stickers are $20. 1981 licence stickers can be bought at Donal Travel on Brock Street South in down- town Whitby, the lower level of the Sheridan Mail in Pickering, Pelshock Motors on Bayly- Street in Ajax and at the MTC offices on thickson Roa l'in Oshawa. IlWe generally seli over 20,000 stickers by the end of February," said Vesey. With only 5600 stiekers sold thus far the real crash will be starting within the next few weeks. Ministry employees warn motorists to, buy their stickers now in order to ease the final onslaught. George Ashe Ashle acelaimed Durham West Tory candlidate By MICHAEL KNELL Free Press Staff The Durham West Progressive Conservative Association acclaimed George Ashe as their can- didate in the upcoming Mar- ch 19 provincial election. Ashe who has been the MPP since the 1977 cam- paign told the party faithful that the prime concern of his campaign will be to "carry on the good government for Ontario.
