Dolly and her 86-year-old mother, Grace Ballard will have roses available at all Whitby banks and the Whitby Mall on Friday, February 13 from il a.m. until 2 p.m. The money raised from the month long campaign and rose day will be used to help supply pacemakers, artery transplants, coronary care units in hospitals, new types of surgery, drugs etc. Support the On- tario Heart Foundation. The increase of $2 per capita grants for police ser- vices is part of the provin- ce's 1981 grant program. The province's grant to municipalities are to in- crease by 9.6 per cent to help meet rising costs. However, Aker said that the finance committee and staff will have to carefully study the grant increase before its total benefit to the region can be determined Last year, the region was given a special grant of $630,000 to help offset the ef- fects of the provincial equalized assestment program. Aker said that he hopes the province will give Durham the grant again this year.
