At The Magic Car Restaurant at 145 King st. west in Oshawa, you can have the pleasure of al three. When Nick Palladino and Mark Valliere took over The Magie Car nearly two years ago, they feit it would take a littie magie to get the wheel turning. This dining spot, unfortunately, had got off to a rather bad start. However today, both Nick and Mark are pleased with the way business has been growing. The Magie Car has become a favorite eating spot for Oshawa and area business people as well as attracting diners (rom al over Durham during the dinner hour in the evenings. The moment you step in the door, your eyes are drawn to an old fashioned gasoline pump, the type with the glass tank on the top where you eould see the gasoline disappearing as the tank emptied. When the tank was empty theservice station man would fi it again by pushing a handie on Better breathmng course offered There is still time to register for the Lung Association's Better Breathing Course, which wiil begin at Harwood Secondary Sehool, Falby Court, Ajax on Tuesday February 24. This f ree program, offered to adults with emphysema, chronie bronchitis asthma or other breathing problems, will run for eight twice-weekly sessions on Tuesday and Thursdays, from 7to 9p. m. Participants will be taught simple self-help techniques to help improve the quality of their daily lives. Instruc- tion will be given in relaxed breathing, controlled eoughing and simple tolerance exercises. Medial professionals wl be on hand at most sessions to answer questions on the side of the tank. There are vintage license plates on the walls, modles of Oshawa-produeed cars dating way back and other items of interest to diners and especially car buffs. Tables that can handle six or eight people have cloth upholstered chairs that are very comfortable. The lighting of the dining room is on the subdued side, but not too dark. About 40 people are em- ployed on the staff and the dining room can sit 150 per- sons at one time. Service is very good, and dîners are readily made to feel at home. The Magie Car installed a very excellent salad bar about six months aâgo, and this has become a popular feature with diners at this restaurant. Sunday Brunch has become very popular with families in the area. Brunch is served from il a.m. to 2 p.m. The restaurant then reopens for dinner from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Children can have a ham- burger, a hot dog, chicken wings or fish and chips with a drink for only $1.95. One of the extra features at the Magic Car is the magician that moves around from table to table during Brunch to entertain the diners. Children are thrilled with the magic tricks of Stu Garland and John Murdoch. Both men are from Oshawa and they get the kids into the act, ail of which makes for a lot of fun for all ages. Following dinner which consisted of a seafood plate and a choice steak, Nick tood us on a tour of the kit- chen. We saw where and how the dishes are cleaned, we inspected the stoves'and the walk-in refrigerator units. Nick explained that they always eut their own steaks, which he dlaims preserves the flavour and juices of the meat. Like ail restaurant owners, Nick and Mike are very selective in purchasing their meats and produce. It ail has to be top quality ail the time. The owners of the Magie Car want it to become known as a good family restaurant. where parents can afford to take their children at prices they can afford to pay. If you want a good meal in an atmosphere you can en- joy, you would be well ad- vised to drop into The Magie Car. You'll enjoy both the food and the prices no mat- ter what you choose from the menu.
