Russell Porter, 36, of Dun- das Street was charged for the theft of two speakers, valued at $1,400, from the lounge at the Spruce Villa Hotel in Whitby. He also charged with the theft of sheets, pillow cases and towels, valued at $225, over the month of January from the Whitby Ambulance Service; for whom Porter worked for as an attendant. Porter was charged with the theft 0f eight chairs and one table valued at $400 from the beverage room of the Spruce Villa Hotel, also during the month of January. His brother, Roy Porter, 20, of Nonquon Road, Oshawa, was charged with possession of the stolen property. AIl of the stolen property was recovered except for the bedding, police said. An off iciai for the Whitby Ambulance Service announ- ced last Friday that Porter has resigned his position with them. By SHARON BRADIMORE Block Parent The Whitby Block Parents will be holding their annual February elections this coming Thursday, February 5. The general meeting star- ts at 7:30 and everyone in- terested is invited to attend. They will meet at the Municipal ~Building on Rossland Road, Whitby. Election offices are open to any Block Parent in Whitby or Brooklin who presently has a sign in their home. The position of chairper- son is traditionally held by someone previously on the central committee. Other 'learn-as-you-go' positions are co-chairperson, secretary, treasurer, educational aids and public relations. People are available to advise any new members how to carry out their new responsibilities. Whitby has been very for- tunate to have a still thriving committee at a time when volunteers are needed by so matiy organizations. This is why the programn has been 50 successful. Block Paren- ts are grateful to Joan Carr for the time and effor spent Chairing our meetings. Thanks are due also to Elaine TuIly (secretary>, Eleanor Sieven (treasurer), Carol Kelm (educational aids), and Sharon Bradimore (public relations). Our ten mini- areas of Whitby also hold monthly meetings to carry out the plans of the Central Committee and nine of those area chairperson will carry on. We do need a new leader for the Dr. R. Thornton-St. Paul's-Sinclair area. Anyone living in that area would be welcome to attend our February meeting. Its been a pleasure to wat- ch the continued growth of the Block Parents program in Whitby.
