Durham College to host Pepsi badminton tourney Rochelle Smith shouts out instructions to Whitby Curling Club teamates Carole Spellen and Ann Chapelle as they guide skip Yvonne Brownlee's rock into the house during a recent Ladies two-day Invitational Bonspiel hosted in Whitby. Brownlee's team eventually won the B. & R. Transport Trophey in the third event, defeating skip Nancy Davis Unionville rink. The Peps-Cola Canadian Intermediate Badminton Championships will be held at Durham College in Oshawa on February 13-15, 1981. Mr. Wayne King, coach of the Harwood Badminton Training Centre in Ajax is chairman of local arrangments. Singles will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 13; doubles and mixed will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and the finals will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sun- day. The Intermediate Cham- pionships are open to Can- adian players who on Jtinuary 1, 1980 were 19, 20 or 21 years of age and who are affiliated with the Canadian 'Badminton Association. The championships will be conducted under the offical rules of the Candian Bad- minton Association and the International' Badminton Federation. Consolation events will be conducted for first round losers in ail events. The en- try fee is $40 per competitor regardless of the number events entered. Whitby curling ladies do well a The Whitby Curling Club's entry into the third event of a recent Ladies Invîtational Bonspiel came off with a series of strong victories to clinch the B. & R. Transport Trophey. The two-day event, hosted by the Whitby Curling Club, was broken down into four events. The winning W.C.C. club rink consisted of skip Yvon- ne Brownle, Rochelle Smith, Ann Chapelle and Carole Spellen. The other wînners and runners up the spiel were: In the first event the Bur- tinsky Florist Trophey win- ners were Oshawa Golf: Phyllis McMillan (skîp), Jean Burch, Lià. Ainge and Marie Cornîsh. Curhcers Gulf Price wîn- ners were Uxbridge C.C. (runners Up): Eveylr Mc- Tavish (skip, Audrey Cain, Grace Murray, and Doris Farthing. In the second event the Dodd and Souter Trophey winner were Thornhill: Ruth Gall (skip), Ev. Bur- den, Kay Hall and Edith Diggins. (runners Up): Barb Tresise (skip), Norma Smith, June Moore and Joyce Monaghan. The Whitby Curling Club Ladies will also be hosting the District 15 S.O.L.C.A. Ladies Tankard Playdowns on Monday February 2 and Tuesday February 3. Nine teams, including the host rink, will start com- peting at 9 a.m. Monday wîth Whitby playing in the afternoon draw which is to begin at1: 15p.m. A team from the W.C.C. skiîpped by Ev. Miller, recently won the Arme McIn- tosh Memorial Trophey Bonspiel held at Bob- caygeon. Lee McLuhan, Betty Pasoce, and Phyllis Williamson completed the victorîous team. Spotlight on WJSC Adrain Vargas, 8, of the Whitby Iroquois Swim Club is the last swimmer in the eight years of age and under category in the series "Spotlight on WISC. " Adrian attends Westmount Public School in Oshawa and likes down hili skiing, hockey and soccer.
