According to Victor Veninga, the custodian of the town hall, the U.S. flag was raised at 1:05 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20 when thelofficial word was given that the 52 diplomats that had been held hostage in Iran for 14 months were on their way home. Veninga said that the flag was raised in celebration of their release. Volunteers have the option of choosing from a wide range of programs held either at Durham Centre it- self, or at various locations within the community. In addition, as individual many wish to become a member of the V.A.D.C. (Volunteer Association of Durham Cen- tre) and help with any of the association's fund-raising or service projects. The amount of time spent as a volunteer depends on each person's interests and availability. Free day care is available for pre-schoolers.
