71 WIIITBY FREIL 'PRESS,. WEI)NISDAY, JANUARY 28.,1981, lPAGE31l Wei lashes out at the provicia Progressive Cons ervative party By MICHAEL KNELL Free Press Staff The anticipated May provincial election cam- paign was kicked off last week by Durham West Liberal Association's can- diate, Norman Wei. In a speech prepared for a local cable television station, Wei lashed out at the few new ideas. A gover- nment that, in my opinion, is a bit tired. " Wei claimed that the Liberals are the only part that has devised a method for Ontario to get out of the present economie troubles. "We are the only party in this province that has a complete blue-print designed to revitalize our No rman Wei policies of the Progressive Conservative government of Premier Bill Davis and present Durham West MPP George Ashe. In what appears to be an indication of things to corne, Wei picked up on four'elec- tion issues: the economy, energy, health care and education. The 34-year old environ- mental engineer criticized the provincial government for having no new ideas. "We have tremendous resources in this province," Wei said. "What disturbs me the most is that the present provincial gover- nment is not making full use of these resources. "We have a government that has been in power for over three decades. A government that has very economy. A blue-print that will strengthen our manulacturing base. A blue-print that will make small businesses in Ontario strong," he said. The South Pickering resident implied that the present government has led the province into a last place position in terms of real economic growth. "It is my belief that On- tario does not have to be the last in Canada in terms of economic growth," he said. "We don't have to be totally dependant on the western provinces for oil. A new Liberal government at Queen's Park wilI develop a new energy industry that will reduce our dependance on imported oil and creat more thatn 20,000 jobs. "We can be as strong as Whitby County Town Carnival Committee Annual Meeting February 3,1981 To be hedin Committee Room One at the Whitby Municipal Building Rossland Road East at 7:30 p.m. Elections of off icers & beginning of plans for this years Carnival.
