At last week's meeting of Whitby Town Council, Drumm said that the region should be concentrating its efforts to seil already ser- viced industrial land in the southern area of town before opening up newarea7.- The councifll was ad- dressing himself toaa proposed amendlhent ta the regional officiaÀ 10çplan in Whtby's northedst in an area bounded. by the Oshawa-Whitby boundary, Thickson Road, Rossland Road and Taunton Road. This study area- is com- prised of approximately 600 acres of land with 600 acres to be designated for in- dustrial purposes and a population capacity of some 9,000 persons. "I would ike to invite al of you tocome down to Thickson Road South, " Drumm told his fellow con- cillors. "There's ail kinds of industrial land there that's empty. " "We don't need the land 110w," he added. "The region is looking at the 21 st century when they should be dealing with now." The faur-year veteran of council pointed out that the sites of Mississauga and Brampton have "10 times as much industrial assessment as Whitby does, despite the Ontario government's Go- East Policy. " "And we're stili waiting for the expansion to the hospital and the new liquor control board warehouse," he said. The region has recom- mended that a new arterial road be built within the study area running east and west between Rossland and Taunton roads. "We need this road like we need a hale in the head," was Drumm's comment. Bawdy house charges dropped Charges of keeping a common bawdy house were dropped against three women in Whitby provinical court last week. The charges were laid af- ter a joint Ontario Provin- cial/Durham Regiunal Police squad raided the Crystal Health Studio at 409 Brock Street South in later December. The keeping a common bawdy house charges were dropped against Joanne Cunningham, 23, of Sixt Line, Oakville; Betty Jane Walton, Langstaff Road West, Thornhill; and, Rosa Cioffi, 26, af Weston Road, Weston. Walton and Coiffi are also charged with being inmates in a common bawdy house. Bruce Elwood Barr, 35, and Alvin Raywood Barr, 38, both of Sheppard Ave., Mississauga also appeared on charges of keeping a common bawdy bouse.
