Jack Lemmon is already being mentioned for an Oscar nomination for lis portrayal in Tribute, a Canadian-made movie that liad its gala premiere in Toronto just recently. Even the Primne Minister flew in from Quebec for the oc- casion. People dislied out $200 and $300 for a seat with tlie receipts being turned over to the Canadian Cancer Society. Jack Lemmon lad 14 mon- tîs on the stage in Tribute before going in front of the cameras witl it. He says lie neyer trîed of the role, but lie did tire pliysically from the daily grind of doing, it on stage. In the film Lemmon plays the part of Scottie Tem- pleton, a man wlo uses lis wit and outrageous antics to cover up for lis fear 0f failure and lis refusal to ac- cept responsibilities. lt's that trait that cost him lis marriage and son, ail of whicl produced a divorce and resentment. Then Scottie finds lielias cancer and makes an at- Y long tempt to renew the love that is lurking beneath the sur- face. Lemmon points out quickly that Tribute is not ail about cancer or a downer. He says this is just a stimulus to get Scottie off his backside and try to make a commitment instead of always putting everything off. Lemmon says lie had to try and make the character understandable and likeable, and lie did a -very good job for it. He admits the movie is partly emotional, but if it reaches receptive people it will likely be well received.
