The town's administrative committee has approved' a plan for the expansion of the K-Mart Plaza on Dundas Street East. The proposai will see the plaza jexpand by* 45,000 square feet. The committee voted to recommend to council that it approve the development plan that willsee the connec- tion built between the exlstlng K-Mart and Dominion stores. The addition will almoot double the size of the Dominion store by- adding 14,000 square feet of floor space. The remainder of the floor space wiIl be made up by smaller iretail outlets. The plan also allows for a 6,000 square foot restaurant to be built separately fromn the main plaza at the for- theast corner of the parking lot where a historical plaque and cairn stand now. A staff report says that the developer, Devan Enter- prises, is negotiating with a steak and hamburger chain for the restaurant site. The 'cairn and plaque presently on the site corn- memorates the site of the First Presbyterian Church established by Dr. Robert Thornton and may have to be removed to make way for the new facility. r T he report also says that if the cairn as te be removed the plaque could be kept on the site.
