Often the family will drive -themn but a lot of seniors have 11o method of transportation. SByk says that', a one time, the idea of getting a van was discussed but the cost of maintenance was tdo high as well as findîng volunteer drivers and the cost of insu- ring- them. The centre also has a volunteer employmient agency for its 484 members that helps to provide some kind of volunteer work for the senior. 1 Byk says one of the advan- tages of the centre is its cent rallocation, -it may flot be far away from. Most members even in walking distance. Another set of problems Byk and ber staff of volun- teers are the inancial worries of the senior. Although Byk adnîits t 'hat they are not experts on Most .problerns., they act as a counselling service, refering. the senior to the' correct agency or person to see to solvetheir problems. The financial problems that, the senior faces are those~ of getting the right retirement benefits- such as Old Age 'Security. and Canada Pension Plan pay- mnents. Seniors also face legal and family- problems just like anyone else. Seniors do flot get their pensions automatically, they have to apply for them, this is what the Byk tries to help them get.
