One lady who is trying to. take seniors off the sheif is Kay Byk, the co-ordinator of programs of the Senior's Activity Centre on Brock Street South, right here in Whitby-; The centre is run by the Recreation Departmnent of the Town of Whitby and gives the senior a place to go to, enjoy the fellowship of their peers -and give them something that they can par- ticipate in. BYk, a teacher by trade, has a degree in art history from Queen's 'Unive rsity, Kingston, and has been the centre's co-ordinator for three years. Although Byk is in charge, as she says "the authority figure" at the centre ýshe says that "I'm playing a low profile here."ý This has especially s0 since the controversy that plagued 'the centre earlier' this year when the Board of Directors was disbanded. At one point the board had the, policy making power at the centre which now *rests with the recreation depart- ment. <Byk says that there are stili a lot of hurt feelings over the affair and that some of the members found it 4ut distressing."
