Last February the Council approved the amount of $500 to "accommodate the initia- tion of the bus run from the northern communities of .Whitby to Iroquois Park Swimming pool and return. It has been observed after the three months the service has been in operation that 212 swinmers have partici- pated in the program, on the average of 20 swimmers per week. The report states that the bus has cost $440 and at the rate of $1.50 per person which includes return bus fare and pool fee, the reve- nue realized has been $318. The report states that thé "program should be allowed maximum time to be proper- ly evaluated." It predicts that thesum- mer months will be of special interest as the results of the hot weather and cottage dwellers interest will be noted. It pointed out in the report that many of the 212 swim- mers who were introduced to the Iroquois Park Swimming Pool through the Bus-Swim programme had never visi- ted the pool before. It is known to the Recrea- tion Department Staff that several of the youngsters have returned during other public swim times with their families. Pool revenue increases In his report to the Council, Recreation Director Wayne DeVeau states that the reve- nue from the Iroquois Park Swimming pool is up. At the end of May the 1979 revenue at the pool is "up presently by $10,000 over last year at this time," he said. The attendance numbers have increased Significantly to enable the pool to operate at a higher efficiency, the report states. Some of the increase in attendance is credited to promotional work that was done last year, which inclu- ded Birthday speach parties and swim safely poster con- tests. The statistics show that in September last year 1,061 attended the swimming pool the lowest monthly atten- dance being in December which was 960 persons! In March of this year the record showed and atten- dance of 3,385 persons, some credit was given to the March Break for the increa- sed attendance. During April and May the attendance record shows that more than 2,200 persons have attended the swimming pool during each of these months making a grand total from September to the end of May 18,806 persons who have gone swimming at the Iro- quois Park Pool. Mike Luchka scored early on a pass from Ian Porter and got his second, aided by Robbie Van Essen. Joey Bryant made it 2-0 on a play that started from an Ian Porter throw-in and then a pass from Mike Luchka. Fred D'Andrea's first goal was a solo effort and his second was on a pass from Ricky Wood. Ricky Wood then made it 6-1 on a lone run down the field. At the 38-minute mark of the second half, Whitby were awarded a free kick, just outside the penalty area and Ed Svetek's pass found Robert Longmuir unmarked and he made no mistake from close range. June 11 at Peel Park the Longmuir Builders shut out Ajax 5-0 with two goals from Fred D'Andrea and one each from Carmelo Scaffid, Joey Bryant and Robbie Van Es- sen. The half-time score was 2-0. The goaltender for Whit- by was Frank Princiotta. Fred D'Andrea on a solo effort, scored from close-in after only three minutes. However this seemed to spirk the Ajax team and they pressed the Whitby defense for most of the first half, but at the 34 minute mark, Ian Proctor throw-in was re- layed by Fred D'Andrea to Carmello Scaffidi and he shot high into the top left corner of the net. In the second half, Whitby dominated and after nine minutes, Joey Bryant with a heder converted a Mike Luchka corner kick. Six minutes from the final whistle, Robbie Van Essen, after some fine passing by Martin Algeo and Carmello Scaffid dribbled the ball along the byle line and shot it past the Ajax keeper. There minutes later Fred D'An- drea made it 5-0 when he ran onto a long throw ball from Martin Algeo. He outstripped the Ajax defense and angled the ball away from the opposition net minder.
