No support for idea The Whitby Town Council at a recent meeting was asked by the Township of Hinchinbrooke, a rural com- munity 30 miles north of Kingston, to endorse a resolution. Hinchinbrooke's Council recommended that "applica- tion of Wintario profits be made to the Provincial bud- gets for health care and education." The Operations Committee of Council recommended at an earlier meeting that the Council "not endorse" the Hinchinbrooke resolution. In his report to the Council and Operations Committee of Council Treasurer Forbes McEwen said the Township 'of Hinchinbrooke requests the Ontario Government to give serious consideration to applying Wintario profits to the Provincial Budgets on health care and education at all levels. They hoped that these services could be ade- quately funded without "further tax burden on Pro- vincial and Municipal tax- payers." Mr. McEwen in his report, pointed out that the profits the Province receives from Wintario are variable. The last information he received stated the Wintario profits were producing approxi- mately $70 million per year. In 1978 the Ontario budget indicated that the Provincial expenditure for health and education amounted to eight billion seven hundred and thirteen million dollars. Mr. McEwen's report pointed out that "the reve- nue from Wintario was less than one per cent of the total Provincial expenditure for Health and Education.
