Durham College expands Durhamn College is erec- ting a new building to pro- vide for expansion of its welding and skills trade courses. The College is tak- ing this step to meet increa- sing demand for skilled Canadian workers. The new building- will be approximately 14,000 square feet, and in addition to weld- ing, will provîde for const- ructi on, carpentry, masonry, drywall, painting and decorating as well as other programs.' It will bc a single storey building With'a mezzanine at onç end, and will be located just east of the present technology -wing. It will bc designed to match existing buildings. The cost of the building will be $619,500 including site work. SConstruction will begin in early March, with compte- tion expected by the first of August. Because of the nature of the -courses to be offered, particularly welding, the mechanical eletrical equip- ment accounts for a consi- derable percentage of the cost of construction. For examplerthere will be sixty welding stations. At the present time the waiting period to get into the welding program is appro- ximately 18 months and this new building should amelio- rate this situation.
