JANUARY 31, 1979, PAGE 19 Coming Events RED CROSS MEETING The annual meeting of the Whitby Branch of the Canadian Red Cross Society will be held at the Chalet Restaurant, 110 Dundas Street, West, Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Sybil Geller, Vice-President of Ontario Division of the Red Cross. The meeting will be de- voted to the election of officers for 1979 and the reading of reports for 1978. Renting space to this aged nuisance provides income for Beatrice and her two teenage daughters; Ruth, a self-centered unsure loud- mouth, and Mathilda, a quiet concerned student whose restricted world receives a ray of hope when, trough a science project at school. she is introduced to the miracle of the atom. But it is at Beatrice the dreamer that lifes disap- pointments hit hardest. For Beatrice, everything that has happeried to her was "somebody elses" fault.and she is incapable of realizing why! To manly >liquor licences says Drumm Councillor Joe Drumm is concerned that there are too many establishments -with liquor licences in Whitby, and liquor licences are too easy to get. Despite Councillor Drumm's concern, council recently allowed a liquor licence for a pizza restau- rant, being constructed on Dundas Street East near Anderson Street. Councillor Drunmm com- mented that 10 years ago it used to be a privilege to get a liquor licence, but it is not now. The Liquor Licence Board of Ontario must give final approval for liquor licences, but the town coun- cil is asked for its opinion as part of the legal process. Councillor Drumm expr- essed concern about. small restaurants in neighbour- hood plazas being granted licences to serve alcoholic beverages. SNOWFLAKE BALL The Volunteer Association of the Whitby Psychiatric Hospital presents its third annual fund raising. benefit, "The Snowflake Ball", on Saturday February 24, at the .Ajax Community Centre. The guest of honour at the event will be The Honourable Pauline McGibbon, Lieu- tenant Governor of Ontario. Tickets are available by calling Mrs. Gerri Flint, of Volunteer Services 668-5881 ext. 323. SNOW MAGIC DANCE The County Town Singers will hold a Snow Magic dance at Heydenshore Pavilion, Feb. 24 at 8 p.m. A light lunch will be featured. WATERCOLOR EXHIBITION An exhibition by the mem- bers of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolor will be held at the Whitby Arts Station Gallery Feb. 2 to 25. The exhibition will include 35 watercolors by such artists as John Bennett, Ray Cattéll, Julius, Griffith, Mercedes Horne, Gery Puly and Osvald Timmas; Twenty-five artists will be represented in the exhibi- tion, which is organized to travel to three Ontario galleries.
