WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 1978, PAGE 19 C <OMING E VENTS WELSH HYMN FESTIVAL A Welsh hymn festival called a Gymanfa Ganu will be held at All Saints' Angli- can Church, Dundas Street West, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m: In this festival, the congre- gation is conducted as a choir, in four parts. The hymns to be sung are old and well-known, such as Cwm Rhondda, Diadem and Ebenezer. Hymn sheets will be provided which contain the words in both Welsh and English. - On this occasion, All Saints' will welcome the Rector and congregation of Dewi Sant (St. David's) Welsh United Church, Toronto. The conductor will be Glyn Roberts of Dewi Sant. All Saints' has hosted simi- lar events in the past, and on one occasion, St. John the Evangelist, Whitby, acted as host. Mrs. Siciliano, of St. John's will be the soloist on this occasion. She was trained in La Scala, Milan, and has sung at the New York Met. DANCE 'A Positive Outlook', an Oshawa based musical group will present a dance at the UAW Hall Friday, Nov- ember 24 with proceeds to be donated to the South Durham Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society. Entitled 'TOP HAT', the dance will feature music to suit every taste. Within its repertoire, the dance group puts the accent on light rock, current ballads and Disco. However the group'will also perform many contempor- ary standards. All members of 'A Positive Outlook' live in Oshawa, and the instrumentation is made up of keyboàrds (including organ, piano, synthesizer and string ensemble), guitar, bass, drums, and a bit of trombone for some- thing different. All band members sing. Tickets for 'TOP HAT', the November 24 dance are available from the Oshawa Organ Centre, 16 Simcoe Street North, Oshawa. Petley-Hare Insurance Agency, à7 King St. West, Oshawa and the Music Fac- tory, 102 Dundas Street East in Whitby. The Cancer Benefit Dance is scheduled from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., and admission is rêstricted to persons 18 years of age and older. Tickets will also be available at the door of the 'U.A.W. Hall the night of the dance, November 24. bazaar table. All proceeds will go to assist the mentally retarded. FALL FREEZE II Henry Street High Sehool will hold its second anntal variety night 'Fall Freeze II,' Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. Included on the pro- gram are contributions from the theatre arts, music and art classes. The show will be held in the cafetoriurn at the back of the shcool, and there will be a small admission feë. ST.. ANDREW'S DANCE The Canadian Scottish Club of Whitby will present a St. Andrew's Dance at the Masonic Hall on Cochrane Street Nov. 18 at 8 p.m. For tickets and information, call 668-4134. CHRISTMAS BAZAAR The Mothers' Auxiliary of the 4th Whitby Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers will hold a Christmas Bazaar on Saturday Nov. 25 from 10 a.n. to 3 p.m. at the St. Mark's United Church Hall. UNIVERSITY INFORMATION A University Informa- 'tion program for Durham Region will be held fron 7:30 p.m. to 9:40 p.m. Nov. 15 at Henry Street High School. Representatives from each university in Ontario will open the session with discus- sions on nine separate themes--business adminis- tration, physical education and recreology, law, medicine and health, educa- tion, engineering, arts humanities arts social sciences, and mathematics and science. These sessions will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Individual presen- tations by each university will be held in two sessions from 8:20 p.m. to 9 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 9:40 p.m. Students and parents of the Durham Region are invited to attend this public presentation by the Ontario University Registrars Association and the Durham Board of Education. the preschooler, communi- cating with your teenager, adolescents - growing up - letting go. THEATRICAL PRODUCTION Neil Simon's successful comedy, 'The Prisoner of Second Avenue' will be presented by the Whitby Theatre Company from Nov. 8 to il at 8 p.m. at the Whitby Centennial Building. A free performance for senior citizens will be held Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. The play is directed by Terrill Stewart, who will be remembered for his perfor- mance as the messanger in last season's production of 'God's Favorite.' Appearing in this some- tirnes tender, sometimes hilarious comedy are: Joan Rundle, Barbara Farrow, John Green, Carole MacNeil, Eric Gareau, Jean Hender- son, David Broughton and Julie Brierly. The play is produced by Jim Walker, set design by Terrill Steward and set construction by Paul Spencer. OLD HOUSES IN ONTARIO Kim Ondaatje, author of the book, 'Old Houses in Ontario'; will give a slide and film presentation on the buildings featured in her book, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Whitby Public Library. MUSICAL PRESENTATION The Huggett Family, acclaimed as one of the world's outstanding musical families will be apprearing at the Whitby Public Library Dec. 4. This family has performed for enthusiastic audiences in London, Paris, Greece and across North American, including the summer of 1978 at the Shaw Festival at Niagara-on-the- Lake. BOOK AUTOGRAPHED Mary Lisko, author of 'The Happy Cooker' and 'The Happy Looker,' will be at Plum Hollow Books, Whitby, Nov. 11 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to autograph her new book, 'The Cnnker with 1a.* OLDE TYME CHRISTMAS Looking for the perfect gift? This four- session course is not a child study course, but a warming, inspiring * opportunity for couples to look at themselves as parents in such areas as memories, listening, replays and life-giving. Cock- tails are at 6:30 p.m. and buffet dinner at 7:30 prn.m followed by dancing to the music of the Brian Larter Trio. Al proceeds of this dinner-dance will go to charity.
